Anybody else notice the overly fragile landing gear??
I can only comment on the P51; but having about 200 sorties or so in it now I can say that the gear modeling is a mite outta whack. (the wing structure failures being an entirely diffrent issue) The structure and airfame where quite capable of having gear deployed without catastrophic failure at 200mph.
Now; assuming pyro has modeled the gear WEIGHT, then I'd be inclined ta leave em down after takeoff; let em blow off and be about 600lbs lighter. When it comes time ta land; I can save all the wear and tear on my keyboard standing on the brakes, stop a heluva lot faster and not be distracted by nusiance attacks from annoyed OPFOR fighters. Are the other AC suffering from this one?? I had the mustang stopped dead otr; and as usual the tail dropped onto the tarmac when the rollout was done. Then the tailwheel broke off. Wuzzup wit DAT pyro!??
Could use some suggestions on what to do with all these gawdamned busted LG's tho.. the BPO has me on the dirt list and if I don't get em moved SOMEWHERE I aint gonna be able ta take off over the mounting pile of debris at the ends of the fields...

All I've noticed on any of the aircraft I've flow is that if you are going over 150 ias when you touch down.. the gear is coming off.
I haven't had any problems with gear collapsing below 150.

Most of the overstress damage is generic at the moment I believe. RTM (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Yup. Haven't landed the Spit yet without what sounds like popping both tires (ctrl-d - shows damage to both landing gear) even though I'm flaps down, stall warning skwawking, nursing it over the boundary with little bursts of power (i.e. with power setting at the point where it 'hunts'). I could still be a little sideways I suppose - may be stuffing it up with too much or too little rudder.

I took the F4U up today to test the new patch. At 200mph IAS I dropped gear and nosed over from 28k. It started groanin and creakin at 340mph IAS.
I went to ditch later and dropped gear at 200mph IAS and as I started to sideslip to kill speed I got the creak and groan from overstress. Can't figure that one out.

Hang..
Ive had no problem at all with the p51.Only once i have lost the tail wheel in a bounce, hit the brakes when plane was allmost to a stop by accedent (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I have flown the Uber FW190A8 and also have not once lost any part of the gear or wheel assemble.Havent flown anything else so im not sure about the other AC.

The F4U should have the most sturdy gear in the planeset. Gear were used as airbrakes on Hawgs, and could be lowered at relatively high airspeeds.

Not to mention that a carrier landing has been called a controled crash! I'd think you would need a pretty big hammer to do much damage to an f4u's gear.

Where did you get those "blinkin' eyes?

To really see the P51 gear thing. Just start a slow (and i mean real slow) taxi on the runway. Hold the brakes, and the tail lifts horizontal to the runway. Release brake and presto.....one broken tailwheel.
