Speaking of the thread about the val dive bomb sight. What is the extra sight on the P-40s used for?..Just curious.
-
It's a backup.

The iron ring sight on the P-40 is the actual gunsight that was used on the plane...It is moved to the right a few inches to allow playes to use their own integrated gunsight.

Actually, it was truly a backup for the illuminated reflector sight, which often suffered light bulbs burning out. It was offset on the actual aircraft too.

Wow thats cool! Wonder if it works fairly accurately, ima try it out.

If you move the pilots "head" so that the iron sight is lined up with the forward sight (the iron bar sticking up in front of it) the iron sight works. In fact, I prefer to use it over the player integrated sight because you can see better on a tracking shot if the enemy plane is coming around from your 3 o clock.
