I think it's just a matter of more Rooks from AH1 coming over to AH2. I fly Rook in AH1 and will in AH2.(probably...lol) I realize it's beta and nothing really counts, but alot of people have country loyalty and just don't want to switch to another country that the've come to despise. Maybe the Bish and Nits should work on getting more of their country to come over to Beta. Btw...the times I have been on the numbers haven't been that 1 sided. 18, 12,20? 25, 19,30? thats not a huge difference. Yes it may be a bigger difference at times, but not that often from what I'v seen.
-
I think its just a matter of people actually opening their eyes and not bieng so blind.
As stated many many times before in the past, all sides have hordes.
But we, as people, just need another reason to complain.
-
If anybody here has come to Despise the other sides,
there friggin whacked and should quit and seek help ASAP! lol

I hate the friggin rooks. I hate the knits. I hate cooley.

So true lazs ... but what does that have to do with Chess pieces.
The 13th moved to Knights to fly with the BKs (because of "like" people). The 13th has moved to Rooks to also fly with "like" people. It was my recommendation to change. There are some quality people who fly for the rooks and I wanted the 13th to be able to wing with them. So far, its been great.
Like Morph pointed out, we have no allegiance to a chess piece, we do what we want to better enjoy the game and in these particular cases, it was to fly with "like" minded individuals.

I've been playing these games as long as just about anyone, and the axiom 'Birds of a Feather, flock together" is true. While some are more loyal to their chess piece than others. There is a very tightly knit core of Rooks that stuck it out throughout the dark ages, when it was sport for Bishops and Knights to see how quickly they could reset the far numerically inferior Rooks. For those that stayed Rooks, there developed an intense loyalty to country and to one another which parallels any real life military unit subjected to harsh combat conditions.
Now, a year or more after Rooks took their 6 month+ arse beating, they instituted RJO's and a highly organized inter-squadron system of co-operation, the numbers have evened out, and all those galvanized by the fire of getting gang-raped daily are still Rooks for the most part.
Bishops usually have numbers during the morning and daytime US central time, Rooks during prime-time, and Knights late night. The perception that Rooks have huge hordes is likely a result of RJO's, squadron co-ordination in general, especially on Sunday nights, and the fact that Rooks have numbers during prime-time US time when there are far more total people online to feel the impact, observe it, and whine about it.
As far as Rook numbers in AHII is concerned, I have flown for all countries under one name or another. One thing is clear, Rooks have a higher percentage of adults than the other two countries, especially Bishops. The high pitched squeel of Bishop pre-pubescents on vox is proof of this. Most Rooks I know personally in AH or from long years in AWFR are in their 40, 50's and beyond. These people can generally afford the necessary upgrades and probably already have very beefy systems able to easily handle the requirements of AHII. On the other hand the 13 year old'ish demographic of the AH population can probably not afford to upgrade or purchase a beefy, higher-end system capable of playing AH2.
Obviously, I'm generalizing here, but you get the idea. Every country is going to lose a percentage of it's player base to AH2 based on prohibitive hardware requirements, I think Rooks will just be less impacted than the other two countries, so will appear to have greater numbers as they have in beta thus far.

Well put!
My 64 bit system will be here tomorrow by 1030am!!!!!!!!!
YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must admit though...went bish for the first time today in BETA so I could get some good fights with my squaddies and some bish pilots...was pretty fun...sucks when its a gangbang...
This is coming from a ROOK!:)
-
I spent almost 5 years in AH (over 4.5 actually) rotating the chess pieces every tour or at least every other tour. Let me tell you, they all suck! Find a good squad and fly for the orange team, if there are any green icons out there you can trust and work with then remeber their names and reciprocate. We just stopped the rotation a few months ago, not because we found the most wonderful side to fly with but because we wanted to get to know the fellow green-guys a little better.
On the subject of hoarding...I flew in AH1-MA for about two hours last night when the nits were piling up in a 3-6 versus 1 attack on one of the eastern channel islands (pizza). It is true, the nits were HOARDing the rooks. I was most suprised they they kept it up so long and did not leave to go find another undefended base ( to you guys for the fun fight).
Regarding the hoarding in the beta MA...our squad left the AH1-MA to go play AH2. When we got there the rooks had a 3 player advantage on the bish and a 6 player advantage on the nits. So we wall switched to nits (shudder), that made the odds in the AH2 arean almost dead even. Of course everytime I ran into any rooks they were in a pack, which only proves you don't need an arena majority to be a hoarder. Right Lazs?

There are three sides?????? lol:rofl

I'm not suggesting the reality of the game and true warfare are 'alike' in any way. But, there is a psychological commonality between the two insofar as we are protraying warfare and actively playing a role in it, experiencing fundamentally similiar psychological and emotional impact during the adrenalin charged fighting as in actual combat with the obvious lack of the threat of imminent 'real' death. Being 'under fire' as it were in Aces High , under constant disadvantage, has a unifying effect and creates a cohesion of thought and purpose that probably would not come into existence otherwise.

I agree with ya Zazen.....
Ahh.....I remember the days....Rooks down to 3 bases.....
Talk about hoards.....I forget who it was but posted stats for the countries (players, kills, etc) which showed just how the ROOKS did not always have the numbers...goes in cycles it seems.
I personally HATE the gang banging that goes on at times...I am a ROOK thru and thru....but it gets old....BUT I also hate it when it comes from the other sides.
Valid Tactic.....and if your side can get the teamwork up to do it...then I guess good on ya.
PS.....you can switch sides and go right back in the Beta Version....I did that yesterday...snuck to Bish cuz they were way outnumbered.....shhhhhhh dont tell any one;)

Last night I faught the R00ks. I have to say I wasn't impressed with their fighting.
Co-Alt 51 vs 51 runs to the deck, drags me over ack (ack isn't as accurate it seems) then ducks on the other side of a mountain trying to reverse only to die.
You know who you are.
ITS A GAME GUYS.
If you die you wont really die. You just get to start over. :D
So dont be afraid to turn a plane once in a while.
It might be fun even!
-
Last night I watched a dozen or more Knits hit several bases defended by no more than two or three Rooks. About 1/2 were flying perk planes.
So when I see whines about hordes, I wag my head and think, "pot-kettle".
There were some excellent hunting areas to be found on or near the center island, yet away from the hordes. All you had to do was patrol along the ingress routes used by the under DAR milk runners for lots of action.
My regards,
Widewing
-
Last night the Nits enjoyed a huge numeric advantage, there were 20 of us and only 35 Rooks. Gotta give credit to those 2 or 3 who left the hoard to defend there bases.

You say the kindest things! :)
I have never held the belief that one side was worse than another in regard to any game issue. All are as bad.
-
Besides its beta. Everyone is drooling to get a kill for the most part and whats worse is the fact that many are so fearful of dying they will do almost anything to evade death. ie. run for the cover of their field full of ack, drag to as many green guys as posible and then throw you an "
GF" after him and his 4 or 5 friends get through. I predict once beta is done with and AH1 is gone forever the hordes will become bigger than ever before.
You will now have a mass of skeerd little pieleets who dont want to die and who are too afraid of testing the limits of their abilities. The simply will want to fly around under the cover of their mother goose aka their other horde friends and stay as far away from danger as posible.
You think the horde is bad now? pfft. Wait a week or so. ;)
The Lone Wolf is about to become a rarity unlike never before.
-
I hate most everybody, Squaddies not though. I despise Cooley, Laplanders, and Bish. I love poking fun at that bish Kommiekazi squad 9typh . It isnt a rook thing in beta( a rook thing would be being 20k before you even cross the front lines) Its going where the horde is. Oh yeah I dislike Pizza therefore when I kill an AK I giggle like a schoolgirl.

Yup, and for every person like yourself there are ten who instead developed and intense and enduring loyalty to Rooks as a direct result of that experience.

thats funny morph, i was fighting knits this morning and i wasnt to impressed with them either. had a 109 do a few turns, till he lost advantage then ran, was in good 1 on 1 with spit, niki and 109 came to his rescue... point being, this kind of stuff is not inherent to one side or another, so i really dont understand why even specify one side or the other in this kind of stuff.
once again, my worthless 2 pennies.

Really?
Couldnt tell ya the last time I saw well over 200 Nits or bish on all at the same time. I do remember seeing a few times when rook numbers pushed close to 300 though
Yes all sides hoard to a certain extent, But Never to the extent I've seen the Rooks take it.
-
This whole Rook hord is in response to AH2 complaint, not AH1 MA. Rooks don't seem to have the AH2 numbers that people were complaining about though.
But by all means, feel free to complain about this post and everything in it!

People who whine numbers without doing their history should pipe down..
Zazen called it on the nose... Zazen like myself and others were all knits when the game was beta then live...
"What we came to rooks to be on the front runners?" (you got us confused with somebody else, TAS who?..)
Naw, more like 150 + 150 vs 50...
thats it...
as a result of the Knits and Bish cowardice.. (look this word up on the boards... I think I did a thread on it before HTC implemented a perk modifier to balance things out....)
The skill factor on rooks is night and day as per the other factions...
not to say the bish and knits dont have aces; that would be foolish to suggest that.. Its just that rooks have more.. and the more really shows its head at even numbers or rook advantage in numbers...
Once the main gets to the level of 150 vs 150 vs 50 for a month straight then I'll change sides again.. (I dont fly much anyway, but a underdog war like that , Im in...)
Note the Rooks did 6 months of numbers like that.. I heard gripes, saw deserters, raged hell and so on... our vox was a cursing cluster ****.. It was actually the best time in a online sim ever.. the Irony... (real intensity, no ones going to save you, you must save yourself)
Now the main has lost its luster for me after going thru that gauntlet,( and the sensory overload that comes with it.) you expect that type of intensity to last forever but it doesn't and your left with dive bombing lancasters to fill the void..
(AH2 looks promising......)
Never once was the the rook will broken and now you mongrels are experiencing our fury... Die pixelated death you Knit and Bish savages.....
Long live the Rook Empire..
2 cents..
