I'm pretty sure I've started a thread like this before, but its been a while.
What would be the "minimum" planeset that you feel could be used for your favorite timeframe and theater for use in the ToD?
Me:
1942 Pacific. (new planes in bold)
US:
F4F4 (i'd love an F4F3 but could live without it)
SBD5
TBD1 Devestator
TBM3 Avenger (again, I'd rather have a TBF-1)
P-40e Warhawk
B-26B Maurader
Japan:
A6M3 Zero
D3A1 Val
B5N2 Kate
Ki-43IIa
G4M1 Betty
While there are numerous other planes that would be "great" to have, I think that the ToD concept could be implemented with a limited planeset like the one listed here. It gives an Aircraft option for fighter and bomber pilots for both the Army and Navy forces.
Anyhow, I know we've got a way to go before ToD comes online, and beyond that we have even longer before HTC will be able to get multiple setups developed. But I just thought I'd add my wish list here.

1943-44 PTO Would be my choice. Though historically a lopsided fight between the US and Japan, this would be much more competetive due to the fact that those on the Japanese side would have much more "experience" and "combat" time than the Japanese did in reality.
USN:
F6F (would love the -3, but the -5 will suffice)
F4U-1/-1D the jarheads need something to fly
FM-2
TBM-3
SBD-5
SB2C-4 (or -5)
PBY
USAAF:
I could care less, but thats just me. I would love to have a strafer B-25C/D/J with the parafrags though.
IJN:
A6M3 and 5
B5N Kate
D3A Val
B6N Jill
D4Y Judy
H8K Emily (I think thats the right plane)
J2M Jack (think thats the right designation)
IJAAF:
Ki-43 Oscar
Ki-61 Tony
Ki-44 Tojo
Ki-84 Frank(I think it was in cervice in mid/late 44, not sure though)
Not perfect, but it would be a start.

Sikboy,
For a '42 setup the B-26B would be unstoppably by the Japanese.

I'll have to remember this the next time I read about Midway.

Seems to me every avatar starts in a the most base Ac and gradually gets offers to transfer to groups with other AC........ as his score or experience (or both) mounts
Raf Avatar may have started in 39 in Hurricanes and by the end of the war been transferred thru every role and aircraft in fighter command.......... sometimes even being moved to the Med for a period.....or even at some point being offerred to transfer to India and Burma...........
Other RAF avatars may end up in Bomber command or flying special ops in Mossies........ etc.........
This role play "growth" could happen to all avatars in all theatres of combat..........
Justa thought as to how immersive TOD could really get........

If nothing else, the A6M3 have twice the cannon ammo as the '2, but I agree... in an MA setting the B-26 can ackstar its way through anything.
But I still think there is a place for it in a limited role within the mission theater concept. I mean, we should keep in mind that presumably, the B-26 will be seeing a good deal of service as a drone.
God Knows I'm familiar with trying to balance the planesets in Pacific Scenarios.

Have you ever fired the cannons on trhe a6m2? They are type 99 mk 1s and completely in effective in AH. For instance simply shooting down an F4F beyond 180yrds requires the entire ammo load.
More ammo wont help kill a b26 even if you were lucky to catch one...

RL accounts have nothing in common with how things play in AH.
The b26 is a death star, fast and the a6m2 guns are the worst of all the cannon armed planes in the game.
The a6m2 will always end up in a 6 chase because its guns are to weak to kill one in a head on or flank atttack and too slow to catch up to make multiple passes.
Its guns are so weak that to be able to get in effective range you will be exposed to the b26s guns and will not survive to get off a shot.
Adding an a6m3 to this mix wont make any difference.

Batz is correct right down the line.
Japanese planeset needs several planes
to really be believeable.
Go take a look at the japanese placeset in target rabaul.
Then come back & make your wish list to HT.

With unlimited planes doing whatever they want, as in the MA sure, this is true. But I don't know how its going to play out in the ToD.
As for Target Rabaul, they have listed on the website:
A6M Zero
A6M2-N Rufe
B5N Kate
D3A Val
H8K Emily
G4M Betty
J2M Jack*
Ki-43 Oscar
Ki-44 Tojo*
Ki-45 Nick
Ki-61 Tony
Ki-48 Lily
Ki-21 Sally
The Tony didn't come into play until 1943, and other that that, I think the Jack would be the only plane up there that would stand that much better of a chance than the Zeke. I admit that I thought the Jack didn't come into service until after 1942.
Anyhow, like I said, I believe it's (the B-26s) role could be limited to keep its negative effects down, although I admit that none of us really knows how the ToD mission structure will effect plane usage.

Well look at the midway event, A6M2s performed terribly against such daunted bombers as the TBMs and SBDs.
Take an A6M2 up sometime, you will see what I mean.
But even so I cant imagine there would be any appeal at all to fly as axis in an early pac set up... but whow knows maybe once the plane set gets expanded it might be different. So I will withhold on giving my opinion on how sucky it would be :p

I don't know, the A6M2s wiped out my SBDs at least once in Midway (we were scouts) lol.
But did the IJN forces have fun?
The appeal to me, and the whole reason I'm want early Pac setups is to fly the Kate. That's pretty much it for me. That plane wasn't available in the Midway Scenario (with the TBM subbing for it) So I did the Maritime Patrol thing. But I just want to fly with some Kates in an arena where we're not going to get massacred by N1K2s, LA-7s and Spits. I'd much rather be massacred by F4Fs! I just find torpedo attacks to be the most fun and challenging aspect of this game, and the Kate is a fun platform for that mission. In the MA, torpedo attacks are hardly worth the time and effort. So it's Special events for me, or (hopefully) the ToD.
[edit] I have taken the A6M2 up, I know how ****ty the Cannons are :)
