Thanks to many great replies skilled modellers have given me in my thread Modellers questions I have been convinced to buy me some Future or carpet polish.
I've now bought it and applied it on my model (over the coat of alluminium I've applied first).
- How long does I want it to dry before I apply the base coat? And do I have to apply multiple coats of Future?
- How long after I have applied the base coat do I have to wait before I can 'chip' the paint with tape etc.?
Does it need to be fully dry? Or touch-dry or anything?

I will, Currently Im working on 2 models: a 1:48 B-26B and a 1:72 PBY Catalina.
When I'll be making my (still boxed) P-47D-30 I'll describe the whole process with pics and text etc.
Not that I'm that experienced, but I think it would be fun to do :)

For the few times I've used Future, my experience has been that one coat is sufficient to seal the metallic paint. If you add too much, you might lose some of the details.
Did you brush it or spray it? I used a brush so that I could control the placement better.

I'm not sure what you trying to do with Future, but this is how I use it.....and I use it on every model I make regardless if it will end up having a gloss or flat finish.
Canopies: I dip canopes in FUTURE and let it drip off to one edge. It dries pretty fast ( like 30 mins) and it will give the canopy a very clear look.
For the model: I paint the model and make it as clean looking as possible. Then I spray maybe 2 coats of FUTURE on all surfaces ( not canopy though) and let it dry. the reason is to give a clear surface for the decals. Apply the decals after the FUTURE has dried, then spray FUTURE again over the decals. This will pretty much hide all the clear areas of the decals that you dont want showing.
After this, you can weather the model with oil based paints. Oil based or enamel paints will not damage the FUTURE which is acyrilic based, so if you want to remove some of the weathering, you can do so without ruining your paintjob.
After you get the model how painted how you like it, apply a flat coat or whatever dull/flat/ gloss finish you want . For aircraft, I use dull or flat finishes.

To be honest, I think Future is dry to the touch after about an hour or so, but it won't reach a fully-cured state for several hours. I usually just paint the model with Future and let it dry overnight.

I like to thin future a bit with denatured alchol, keep it thin on a clean surface each coat drys in 30 min. or so. I use 2 coats most of the time then decal then use flat clear to seal then artist chalks to weather.

I believe one of the advantages of using floor wax is that it can be brushed on and will not leave brush marks. If however you want a flat coat which is prefable for military models then you'll want to use a hobby based flat clear coat. When using or mixing different stuff together like floor wax or clear coats and decal solvents, always run a quick test application (not on the model) first if you want to be sure its all compatible. Nothing worse then finishing a big 1/32 scale F-14 then spraying the final clear coat on only to see it develop strange white spots. I know someone who has had this happen so it does happen. Floor wax is better than a hobby clear semi gloss coat, and it brushes better. I believe that the hobby stuff actually airbrushes better (like for ultra gloss auto finishes) and there are solvents made to order for each particular brand. Good luck.

How long do I have to wait untill I can start 'chipping' the paint with tape?
