You meant:

AH has I, V, IX, XIV.

Still, I don't see any reason that a Mk IX couldn't be skinned asd a Mk VIII.

I've asked HTC about this , wasn't quite clear what they meant , and have asked for clarification

Can't see much difference at all between the mk viii's the Raaf were using and the  AH mk 1x

engines armament etc all look the same

read something about a tropical air filter and the retractable tailwheel
. Is this enough to make a huge difference

mk 8 was very different than the mk9...the mk9 was just a stop-gap while mk 8 was developed..externally not much different, new tail section, revised wing, pressurised CP..
but i dont see why a mk8 skin should not be allowed on a mk9 or 14..

Been debating it with myself.  They're close enough that I'll accept it.

why? not better to add spit mkVIII?
"our" mk9 and this form pictures thats 2 diferent planes

why we cant do P51B skins for P51 D? they are both P51's  So we dont need both of them, p51B is enough ;-)

Been doing some research on P-40's Flyboy and I think this one would be a great one for the p40E

I'ts very well known, I've checked the authenticity on http://www.adfserials.com.au

A29-113   P-40E-1   41-36104   5/42   served with 77 Sqn; this was the usual aircraft of S/L R 'Dick' Cresswell when he was the CO of 77 Sqn from 4/42; it was coded 'U' (often depicted red, but during 1942 the RAAF was getting rid of any hint of red on its aircraft, this colour should be a pale blue) and had the three flags for Australia, UK and the US on the nose below the engine exhauts; on the night of the 23/11/42, S/L Cresswell in this a/c intercepted three Bettys over Darwin, downing T359, serial 5414 of the Tokao Ku over Koolpinyah, NT, the Betty fell onto the Herbert Station narrowly missing the Homestead, and a 77 Sqn barbecue being held there; crashed at Mildura, Vic 27/6/43 after the pilot bailed out due to an electrical fire in the cockpit.

When the P40N comes along there are some great choices for it also.

If and when they do a MKviii  the skins could be transferred over.

Can't see a mk viii being at the top of their priority list.

Btw Might be better to go with designation ZP-Y. A lot more historical reference around to  ZP-Y from what I have found. On most sites ZP-Y is listed as the designation for  457 squadron.

Quite a few photos etc of ZP-Y around the web

RG-V is a restored one still flying in Australia don't know where they got the desig from

Ok some history here - squadron designation listed as ZP.

This is the aust govt war memorial site  - so should be accurate

http://www.awm.gov.au/units/unit_11157.asp

http://www.adf-serials.com/units.shtml

Some photos/ plates

ZP-Y is listed in many places as wing commander glenn coopers plane

http://www.odyssey.dircon.co.uk/pacspitfire.htm

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/decals/aero/am72141.htm

RG-V is listed in many places as Bobby Gibbes aircraft

The  squadrons leaders personal plane must have used their initials   - RG
( I hadn't realised this until I started looking for more details)

So either  ZP- ? or RG-V should be fine

Given Bobby Gibbes  was an ace and there are some great photos of a restored one below - it's probably a pretty good choice

http://www.aviationmuseum.com.au/aircraft/spitfire.cfm

http://www.oldcmp.net/tem_spit_detail.html

There arew also some skins on Il2skins.com if you wanted to check them out

I like the black inside of the mouth as on ZPQ much more than the red as on ZPY.

The restore one  ( RG-V)  has  the black mouth also.

Would imagine they did quite a bit of research on restoration - think they would have been able to speak to Bobby Gibbes about the plane.

OK, I actually got started today and put down the base colours. I have to panel, rivet and weather it yet. Here's the started plane as it stands now.
