When will we be seeing the 1024 skins?
-
I submitted one about a month ago. Still waiting.
VF-85 USS Shangri-La "Joe Robbins" #11

i wonder if HTC is only accepting skins for those planes with updated models? (like p47)
that skin looks nice but it defintely shows the age of the f4u model its painted onto. the stuff natedog and superfly do nowadays blows that outta the water

I don't think it has anything to do with updated skins, they would have said if they were only taking skins on new skin models. Besides, they accepted my first Hellcat and that hasn't been updated.
HTC are probably just too busy getting AH2 out the door. The first batch of skins were likely only released so they could beta test the player skin process. I doubt we'll see more until the game goes live. (Whenever I post something like this I'm usually immediately proved wrong....here's hoping). :)

Pyro (I think it was) emailed me a while back and told me the skin I submitted was not 1024. It wasn't. He said I could do it myself or wait until the new 1024 skins were released and then resubmit my custom skin. I do not know how to make a 1024 skin (caint drag it), so I was wanting to know when HTC was going to release the 1024 skins.

On Sunday, HT said he was the hold up on the new skins. He felt there was enough to be tested right now and he didn't want to choke the system with a bunch of skins to be downloaded.
My guess, uninformed with no proof to back it up, is that any new skins that will be released will be put in with the final patch/release for AH2 when it goes live. The other option is to rekease a few each day or couple of days to ease server load.

Greebo, how can you tell if they accepted a skin? I submitted my desert spit 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything. Does not getting a no mean they have accepted it?
Ihave heard guys talk about new models. Are they making new ones o r are they just switching them to accept 1024 by 1024 bmps? If there are new models, which ones are (dont want to waste time skinning for out of date models).

New skin additions have been on hold so we could work out issues with the texture caching in isolation.
You don't have to wait for a skin to upgraded to 1024 in order to submit a skin, but we don't accept skins using the old resolution.
You should receive an email after you submit your skin and another one after it has been accepted or rejected. We are a bit backlogged but that process should start moving again soon.

I'm not sure which skins have already been revamped Dstrt. To find out, just save all the default skins you are interested in doing. The 1024 res ones are new, the 256 ones are old.
For those that don't know you can create 1024 art for any of the unimproved planes and vehicles. Just resize the 256 art to 1024 and save it in a new directory, "f6f51" or whatever. Of course to make it LOOK different you need to do some work. :) Certainly if you do a skin on an unimproved model, you run the risk of having to do it all again later.

Greebo, I see you have an approved F4U skin. Can ya do the VMF-312? I just cant get it right. All I can do is wait for the new 1024 skin. I already submited my skin but it was rejected. I resized it but learned that wasnt right.
...or can you email me your approved F4U-D1 templet?
Thanks

I saw some dash 1 skins come down tonight. One is an English one and the other is a light blue tri-color one with red on the stars, very nice.

There is a problem with the F4U-1D art file which makes this an awkward skin to do. Basically the top of the cowling is mirrored with the bottom of the cowling. Trouble is there is a bug which means the top part is also skewed around 20 degrees one way. If I skew the chequers 20 degrees on the top of the cowling so they look right, they will appear 20 degrees out on the bottom of the cowling.
Now HTC have accepted some of my F4Us, I'll post templates for them to AH Skins.

F4U templates are up at AH Skins (http://www.ah-skins.com/index.php). Thanks Lucull.

SWEET I need to get in there and download the skins quickly.

I dont go around staring at the top of my cowling so maybe HTC will approve it anyway...just maybe :D

...and I already have the F4U-1 template modified without the field applied bars on the insignia. Setting up to do Walsh's white 13, which I seem to have the most coverage.
The question arises on what format the final has to be for AH to read it. A 24 bit BMP CTDs me when I'm offline.

Save them as 256 colour, 1024 res bmps.
