Title: Extremely helpfull suggestion for clipboard
Post by: Frost on June 10, 2004, 12:23:22 AM
As it stands right now you can right click on a base on the map and it will give you an option for the status of that particular base.  This is a nice addition and would be even better if when you right clicked on the base and hit "clipboard maps" it would automatically bring up the clipboard map for that size field.  Right now you have to select clipboard maps and pull a drop down box to select the field.  It would be immenslely helpfull and a whole lot faster if it would default to the layout of the field that you right clicked on.

I would like to see the airfield maps displayable on the 'swing-out' part of the clipboard so that the overall map is still available (at it's current level of zoom!)  :)

Had thought of doing this,  there is no way of deciding what target types go with which maps with the current system.

By 'target types' do you mean small/medium/large airfields (aside from country strat targets)?  Would adding all three to the right click menu work instead?

[edit]:  Hmm, non-standard airfields (in OzKansas for example) might give a headache as they dont match the bmp picture.  [/edit]

Thanks for the reply HiTech.  I figured you could do it because when you right click on a field it gives you the option on the menu for the status of that particular field.  I thought that if it could read which field you right clicked on it could determine which type of field it is and give the appropriate map.

Frost, can do all of what you ask except display the apropriate map. Nothing in the system says what a map type is. I.E. I know what field type or factory you clicked on. But nothing in the system says what a map type is.

No problem.  Thanks for checking into it for us.

HT  I think what he is asking for is to be able to right click on a icon be it field, vh, radar factory, ect and have the option to display it's layout map on the swing out portion of the clipboard.

If thats not to hard to code It seems like a very good idea aside from fumbling around trying to scroll through the current dropdown list, then having to go back and reclick current to get back to the actual map.

The ability as we have it now to right click a certain field and have its status readily available is really great.

I wouldn't want anything that would prevent me from using custom field maps and as HT said, that could be a problem.  It might also keep me from determining the sort order of the maps.

I really like Flossy's idea of putting the clipboard maps on the 'swing-out' part of the clipboard .  As it is right now, when you bring up a field/strat map and then close it, the clipboard terrain changes back to the default size and you must expand it all over again.
