My jazz instructor back in college used to have a funny story. He got hired on for a tour with Ray Charles back in the early 80's. During one rehearsal, one of the trumpet players kept missing a note in a certain passage. Ray stopped the band, turned towards the trumpet player and said, "Damnit, you keep hitting the wrong damn note! I've told you time and time again to not do that. You're fired! Go home and change your shirt, it's ugly as hell!"
True story.

It's sad but he'd want us to celebrate fo sure. Read about him and all he overcame.

He didn't just do this in rehersals. On more than one occasion he stopped a show to chew out a rayette or other band member that wasn't getting it done to his satisfaction.

Does anyone know what he died of?
-
Hope it was not from reading the O'Club.
Ray seemed to improve with age. Another classic gone.
