Can't they find some other weapons to modify?

Or do they have to use WWII weapons?

I have a M-44 I modified to a "sporter" cut and refinished the stock, bent the bolt, and recently ordered a scope mount for a 2.5 power scope I have laying around.

Why?

Its my "trunk gun" The rifle was $35, if I screw it up I am out 35 bux. If I drop it down a cliff while hiking its 35 bux and a letter to DOJ. If I get mad at it and wrap it around a tree its.....you get the idea.

Aren't there any disadvantages to mounting the scope so far forward like that?

why is that a disgrace?  there were millions of these guns made and if there were no market for them then they would simply be scraped.

Yes, you can only use scopes with a long relief (point from eye to lens) and those are only pistol. Useing only pistol scpoes limits you to less than two to three power. With a loinger range rifle like the 7.62X54R you can go higher.

This type of mount was made popular by Jeff Cooper's "scout gun" a rifle he designed for Army Scouts. The idea of the long relief is so a scout can engage a target but still be able to see something coning up in his periferal (sp) vision.

Nagants are a dime a dozen. They are great for Tomato steaks in the garden though;)

Please note: Some of these rifles are very collectable. Makarov.com does not recommend making any permanent changes to collectable rifles.

Let me ask you a quick question:

Are you the one paying to store these weapons, or are you the one who paid to import them...?

If so, then ***** away, ifnot, anti-up and buy them and store them yourself.  Otherwise, let-em be, taking a chance on these weapons like this, was a poor choice, and now they are trying to dig out of it.
