Has anyone figured out a way to make the sidewinder precision pro work with the AH view system? As nice as the view system in AH is, its not worth a toejam with my SWPP in combat. First, I have assigned the up key to a button but when I press the button and pan I only get the forward, left, right and back views in 45 degrees. I really need the Forward L, Forward R, Back L and Back R views to get the 360 field of view.
I am aware that some people have managed to create a stick file that doesnt use the sidewinder control panel but I want to use the control panel. I really like the way the SWPP works in all other regards but I am frustrated with the view system.
To sound like a broken record, the view system in Warbirds worked exceptionally well for me but here I am struggling over and over with a better view system in AH.
There sould be some work around. Can someone give me the same capability to use sticksets 1 and 2 assigned to level views and 45 degree views at the press of a single, well placed button?
Am I toejam out of luck?
Up the creek without a paddle?
FUBARd'?

I use the SWPP, and although I haven't tried...; try mapping the #pad 45degree veiw keys to buttons A,B,C, and D on the stick. If that doesn't work, I don't know. Hope it helps (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Here is what I do.
I map the hat to the view's on the numpad. Hat forward is mapped to 8 and 5, "forward and up" had left to the 6 key, etc etc. I map the C key to numpad 5 for up views.
For head movment I use the profiling software that came with my pre pro, using the shift key to do so. SO...Shift and the 2 buttons next to the hat move your head up and down. shift and the base buttons move your head in and out, up and down. I find it works ok. Its not perfect, you cant move your head while looking up, and its hard to move your head up and down and use the hat, but you can move your head side to side, in and out while using the 8 normal views. Of course, if up and down is important you could switch the 2 keys next to the hat with in and out and put up and down on the base buttons. I like mine the way it is.
IF you want to try it email me and Ill send you my profile to try out.

Yeager,
Here's what I do:
o Go into AH keyboard setup and set numkeypad '/' to 'forward', and numkeypad '8'to 'forward & up'.
o Go into AH joystick setup. I found that the PP Shift button is interpreted as button #10, so I set #10 to 'view: up'.
o Go into SW PP profile and set hat to the num keypad, flicking the hat forward being assigned keypad '8' (forward & up).
o I also set the A,B,C & D buttons to aileron & elevator trim while in the Profiler.
What this allows me to do is:
1) flick the hat forward to see forward and up.
2) press & hold the SW/PP Shift button plus flick the hat for any 'up' views in any direction. Releasing the Shift button returns the hat views to level.
3) use the A,B,C and D buttons for instantaneous trim.
If you want the profile send me email (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Umm...
I use a SW PP, and had the same problem when AH first came out and didn't have 8-way hat support. If you recall, when the fix stick settings, your custom ones won't fix themselves.
Try remapping all the view keys on the hat, they now support "Hat 1 DN, DL, DR, UP,UL,UR, L and R".
FWIW, I have the B key set to look up, and the shift key to look down, and Hat 1 UP to stick my nose in the gunsight. I get 27 views that way.
-
I gave up on it yeager. I think HT once said because of the way the view system works in AH, they wont be able to set up a WB type stick set system. Views are so important that I set my stick up in AH. I have all my buttons devoted to trims. I started useing the keyboard for everything. Flaps,Radar, brakes, soforth.

I agree with Rosco ....I use the sidewinder profiler program that came with your stick, it works perfectly . I have never had to map any keys in AH just set up the profiler program. I had 8 way views since the first AH version with this system if you want a copy of my profile just e-mail me Mirach2@hotmail.com

Rgr that, MSPP software works perfectly for me, 8way hat was never a prob.
My prob was how to get those 8 views plus the 8 up views controled by the stick, without using the keyboard. Now my pro is basically a 9 button joystice, but i got 16 views, love it.

I have the OLD MSFF stick! I only have the 4 views. I use the # keypad for up and other views. However, I think my Profiler differs from the others. I would like 8 views, but I dont want to sacrifice other function keys to view/see. The 3, 6, 9, and 12 views are all I have. By Pressing the 5 key, I double my views. I might try som of these other ideas. But all of my keys are full here. This SIM is kinda....different! <g>

Good Luck Ken, LOL! Roger That, this sim is wayyyyy different, know how ya feel.
It's been along time since i had the 3dPro stick. Have you been to the Sidewinder Site lately and made sure ya got the latest drivers? Maybe your stuck with 4 views, dunno.
http://www.microsoft.com/sidewinder/default.htm (http://www.microsoft.com/sidewinder/default.htm)
Before I figured out how to make my shift button work for the up command, I remaped my up command to the Tilde key using the game software. Was alot more convienent for me to use as I'm right handed, hehe.

Ken, either your older stick is totally different or its the drivers you are using, but you should be able to map all 8 views on the hat and be able to map the numpad 5 key to a single button on the stick for up views, making all 16 views available without using the keyboard. I have an old 3Dpro that works EXACTLY like my new precision pro, "view wise" The hat is 8 way and you should be able to map the hat to all 8 views, in either the game or the profiling software. The big advantage of the profiling software is that I transform my stick from an 8 button to a 16 button using the shift key on my precision pro, something that the 3D pro doesnt have. For me everything works like it did in WB's. If you can get all 16 views in WB's I cant understand why not in AH.

Yeager,
Did you get my email with the attached profile?

Thanks for all the looks.
I Purchased this MS Force Feed stick in November 1997 for the AW3 closed Beta.
I am still using the original profiler version it came with. (stick has fan in base for the processor) I havent done new drivers....cause "if it ain't broke-dont fix it".
I have assigned my keys like AW3. C & D are F1 and F3. (Gun and Bomb sights in AW3) A & B are Flaps. SHIFT C & D are Engine and gear. (so I dont hit them by accident in flight.) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Top right button is ESC and F10 (AW3 Map), under that is Weapon Cycle/Bomb bay doors (AW3)
Bomb Button is Secondary weapon FIRE.
I am used to reaching for the 5 key and using the hat with it. Also the 8 too. The other few keys I use are on the Keyboard:
X, Shift X, "P" , and Ctrl + D. The rest are on the other stick buttons. I have adjusted to the view thing, but may try later. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

hi K-KEN, I have one of those too, and after removing the fan, I fully enjoy the silence. Try those instructions for FF fan removal (http://www.force-1.com/fanremoval/fan_removal_instructions.htm) if you dare (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

If the truth be known, I use the exhaust of the fan to cool and dry my palm after heated combat! LOL And I do have sweaty palms after a good fight or a fun night! <I'll never disco the fan> (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I also found that if I use the hat in a certain way, I get the 5 and 7 o'clock views-by adding the #2 key with the hat view. Go figure!

Well Yeager I have the same problem. Its the main reason I dont play this game more often. Its hard to fly witout the views you have been flying with for 4 years. In WB's your stick setting 2 is mapped to the button number 4. If you hit number 4 it switches you views to 45 degrees up on the 8 way hat. If you hit it again it toggles back to level view on the 8 way hat. I cnat seem to set it up like this in here for some reason. I have to use 2 of the lower buttons to switch back and forth. This a major pain and it makes this Sim that much more disagreeable to me. You cant kill what you cant track with your views and you pretty much HAVE to have your views setup in a manor comfortable to you. I just cant get comfortable here (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
LLBM OUT but will keep on trying and maybe HT and Pyro will go out and buy a MSPP and learn how to program for it.
-
LLBM,
I now have quick access to 24+ views. Although it is not optimum, I have become more or less proficient with my setup.
I have the up view (5 key) programed to button 5 on the base of the stick. My original complaint was that pressing button 5 and then using the hat only gave me the 45 degree views for fwd up, aft up, left up and right up. I couldnt get the corner views in 45 degrees unless I left the stick and pressed 5 on the damn keypad. So, I went into the key setup and fiddled around some. Consequently, I have all eight of the 45 degree views up on my hat although I cant recall what I did to get this working.
Heres my current problem! I have to press button 5 on the stick BEFORE I use the hat. If I do this and then say, toggle to the left fwd up view, then come down and switch to the left regular view, I cant push the 5 button and get the left view looking up at 45 degrees. I have to release the hat then push button 5 THEN go back to the hat to get the 45 degree view I want.
It cumbersome and less then I really like but it works a far sight better then not having those qurter views in 45 degrees that I began with.
I also remapped keypad 5 to space bar and keypad 0 (zero) to tilde, so I have better left hand access to those keys as a result.
I guess I accept this fault in the view system because its most likely the SWPP thats not up to snuff.
Lastly, this view system is tremendous, probably too good with the 6 views being so forgiving.
Im doing ok now and thanks to everyone who chimed in with pity and helpful suggestions.
Im ok with it.

Yeager, did ya try to set up the pro like one of the guys suggested in one of the above posts. It's the post where ya make your shift button, button 10, in the game software.
Then using the game software make button 10(the shift button) the up command. Now when i hit hat left or left back alls i do his hit the shift button and i got the up view. Works good.
With this method i got 16views and a 9 button joystick, works for me, good luck!
