Bah humbug.
Ok. Now ive been trying to play AH2 and been successful with 1 patch only. Now I keep getting this .......
"Initialisation failed -9 mainWLD_FAILED -1"
I have Direct X 9.0b.
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled after a fresh download of the full version Beta 42.
This machine should be more than capable of running AH2. It is....
MS Windows 2000
Radeon 9800Pro 8 x AGP 128 meg
RealTek AC97 Audio
512 DDR
Intel(R) Celeron(R) 1.70Ghz (waiting on 3.2 in a month)
Desktop running at 1024x768 32 bit. (60 hz).
So why isnt it happening for me?
-
you might try updateing your video drivers to the latest version
Gunns
-
Thanks for trying but I have the latest Catylst drivers out. :(
Come on HTC whats this error mean eh?
-
I'm getting the same error message when I try to run AH2.
MS Windows XP
GeForce FX 5200 256 mb pci
768 DDR
Pentium 4
Desktop running at 1024x768 32 bit.
-
it looks like DX9 needs reinstalled
-
Dx90.b has been reinstalled maybe 5 times on this machine with 2 seperate fresh downloads.
Dx9 aint it im afraid. :( Thanks for trying tho.
-
Try deleteing video8.cfg
reboot, try ah2 again.
May not work but doesn't take long to find out.
-
Delete the 'cache' folder in the Aces High II installation directory. If that does not do it, then completely remove Aces High II, including removing the 'Aces High II' installation folder and do a full reinstall of the program.
-
Deleted videocfg8 and the cache directory with a good ol' fashioned reboot. No joy.
Tho at least that time I got as far as it asking me what resolution I wanted to set for the game before the MainWLD error returned.
Ill try another complete uninstall , re download and reinstall tho I have little faith in it.
Thanks for trying gents.

If that fails, shoot me a copy of the DXDIAG output with a description of the problem. The error is coming from DirectX and is telling Aces High II that DirectX could not create the video device.
-
Tried it and failed mate.
Shooting you a mail. I appreciate your effort. S!
-
Check to see if any of your folders/files in Aces High II's path are set to read-only. Did you copy something from a CD perhaps?
-
Negative to both Skuzzy, Original files only. No folders or subfolders are set to read only :(
-
You didn't happen to drag your executable to the desktop and not a shortcut to it?
Basically, AH2 cannot find its resource files. Usually means the path is wrong, whioch would happen if you put the executable on the desktop, instead of a shortcut to it.
-
Right click, create Shortcut. "Drag shortcut to desktop."
My standard SOP's re game files. Still appreciating the brainstorming tho Scuzzy. :)
-
Humor me. Remove the game from the system (use Add/Remove Programs ICON in the control panel), in its entirety (includes removing the folder "Aces High II").
Reinstall a fresh copy. Do not create a shortcut and execute the game from Start->Programs->Aces High II->Aces High II.
Let me know what it does.
Something is messed up that is telling Aces High II to look for its resources in an area that does not exist. It could be the registry settings, which will be cleared when you run the remover in Add/Remove Programs, or the executable is not where it is supposed to be, or the folders cannot be read.

You are humoured and so am I.
IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding work mate and thank you for you persistance and dedication to helping me out. If I ever get over to the US and partake in one of thoses AH Conventions, I am going to buy you many many beers. Hell, Ill bring Aussie beer to maximise your enjoyment. Thanks mate S!
Ive no idea why and I dont care. It works, it works, it works ! :)
......another happy customer.

No problem. Glad that did the trick. I was running out of ideas.
-
Skuzzy,
Don't know if this was the problem cause for me or not, I was getting the exact same error message when I updated on the 39 release, up til then had no problems
I deleted the whole folder thru uninstall, redownloaded the game, same error message
did a complete dx9 reinstall, same problem
Then i looked thru the puter to see what had changed during that time
My wife had downloaded the upgraded AOL Broadband software
So I uninstalled that, restored to a previous point, loaded the older version of aol( the wife likes the email and IM crap) reinstalled ah2, and since then works fine
I blame aol, not sure if it was what the problem was, cuz it sure loads a lot of crap in that install, it added six processes running in background, but I blame it anyway :)
So that is my experience, it may or may not help-but was a solution for me
