Title: Video memory question
Post by: DREDIOCK on June 14, 2004, 11:42:23 AM
Why does AHII use so little of the video memory?
And with so much video memory left available, Why would we be experiancing stutters, pauses, freezeframes and such even after turning detail down. Or for that matter. with so little vid memory used why would we need to turn down details at all?

And whats with the wild variation of framerates.
I sometimes have mine go something like this 60,65.60,29,22,15,15,12 (yes it sometimes drops as low as 12)
45.
I've heard others while playing mention the same thing. Some of those have better cards then I do so I know its not just me.

I would think that with so much video memory left over the framerates should be alot more stable at the very least

Im no Techno expert so I VERY well could be wrong but it just seems to me that better use could be made of the video memory available.

Would just like an explination.
In every day english preferrably :)

I am having the same problem, done about everything I can think of and I still have the stutter problem and wide variation of framerates. Frustrating to say the least. Would hate to have to leave AH, but not going to pay for a game that doesn't run well for me. Hope they fine tune it soon. or I find a way to fix it.

System.
AMD Athlon XP 2400
ASUS A7N8X Motherboard
768MB DDR333 Ram
GF4 Ti4600 128mb vid card
SB Audiogy X-Gamer sound card

Im willing to say that the problem is you SB Live soundcard.

Uninstall it and activate your onboard sound chip. Install the latest onboard sound drivers.

As far as the wild frame rates:

You are limited by VSYNC ratios starting at 60 FPS and it will go down in multiples of 1/2s or 3rds ie 60  30 15 12

I also believe that the Audigy may be at fault too.

Also ensure that your motherboards IDE driver is installed.

Problem. I am using an analog stick and dont have an extra $100 for a CH stick, Saitech stick is too small for my hand and I have pretty much deemed the other "affordable" sticks as..junk which do not work the way I like and wouldnt last more then 2 days of my abuse even if they did

And how does one do that?

I dont have any of these problems with ANY other game I own and play online or off

So if indeed these are the causes and not trying to be a wise prettythang. But with all due respect to HTC It would seem to me to be something HTC needs to address more then me.
