But they do look more like evil futuristic B movie villans! So thats a good thing for som of you! :D

UGLY! Sorry I couldn't help myself, but its UGLY!
-
The new uniform is a-okay with me as long as they continue to give every soldier a beret to increase morale and make sure that the beret is made in China. Go Army.
-
Boy, that's worse than having everyone wear a Beret. It's sure not a fashion statement.....
BTW, what type of background is it supposed to blend into..? A city maybe...?
-
That really sucks.
[even the poor guy modeling it is about to cry. It was funny when the AF did it, but this is just sad.]

This and the M8 rifle will make the US soldier look a lot different by next year..

LOL! We collectively did a "rolly eye" emoticon when we made the change. Yeah, pretty silly when you think about it. I don't know anyone who doesn't want the plain ol' patrol cap back. More practical.

How much did we pay the French to design this?

LOL Vor :D :D

It's an improvement over the M-16/M-4 I guess, but the same old round apparently. The design does look like it should have an orange cap on the muzzle and Mattel on the side.
The transformer generation has found it's way into weapons design too - Look, it's an SMG... "Transformer, sniper rifle in disguise!" http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm

I think the uniform looks cool.
-
Gotta be happy about the velcroed patches. Do the uniforms come with the velcro when bought? Having the patches sewn on was always a big expense and took the better part of a week unless you did it yourself.
-
:aok
It looks kind of imperial marineish at first but getting rid of unnessary tabs and buttons is good.
Love the bellowed shoulders on the back of the blouse.
I havent worn armour for anything like the terms that troops are now but I know that the stuff I wore was not made to wear under armour. You had to undo the armour to get at most anything.
-
wow cant wait to see the navy's new uniform....they're the only service left that hasnt wanted somthing new.....
Of all the services so far this has to be the worst.....the thing should be a shade of green or brown or somthing. I'm sure there is some kind of desert varient.
SO far the Marines have done it right as far as new uniforms are concerned.
-
wow...right out of a classic space opera!
-
It's all good until the first few people trying to fight in close proximity get velcroed together.
hell in order to stop our troops all they'll have to do is lay a sheet of that fluffy stuff out and and instant quagmire.
Also at night someone adjusts his uniform and RIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP nice loud velco noise..
first the beret idea, now it's this gay looking velcro outfit.
Who makes these decisions?

:rofl Like the bar-room game where you jump at the wall wearing a velcro suit!
Educated leaders at top levels make these decisions, btw. They know what's best...they always do! The "good idea" people strike again!
:D

it's ugly as hell, but looks practical.
the camo pattern seems good. kinda like those t-shirts that are printed to look blurred. it's almost uncomfortable to look at. which is definitely a good thing if someone is trying to shoot you.

except for a trained marksmen. A trained marksmen will see a clear front sight tip and a blurry target either way.
I just dont think it will blend with anything. even a city....I think of one thing it will blend with.
Edit: after actually reading the army article I realize I was wrong.
They come in three different color patters.
It has an actual pen pocket
interchangable patches
Inserts for knee and elbow pads
Sounds pretty functional to me. The collar can be worn up or down wich is cool cause you dont have to look like an idiot w/ a collar like that or you can seal off your body from sand or an NBC attack.

It blends in with the sky Gunslinger, so it must be coming with a mandatory jet pack.

I actually went to the site and read what they did to the uniform..some really good stuff..
they have pockets on the arms instead of the front of the top so when you wear your body armor you can still get to your stuff, they also canted the leg pockets so you can reach in them when squatting or sitting down without as much hassle..
Sounds like they actually made the thing to work well...
I still don't like the color or the velcro but the way they set the rest of it up sounds good.

And not much, we paid them $7.32 US. It was the largest military purchase in recent Canadian history.. :rofl

The guy that's wearing it in the 1st pic looks like he's about to cry....
what an ugly uniform...
God help us all.
-
Hmmm with all that velcro the sheep won't have a chance!
-
Looks like some of those "uniforms" found in horrible B movies - with huge excessively fiery explosions and they use recreational 'military helicopters' that look like they've been rented for the day.
Whats with the colors though? They looking to only find htemselves in urban combat or rock quarries?
Yeah, they looked to the movies for this one :)

Zippers get stuck and doesnt velcro wear out or make noise?
-
Now, you would expect them to be showin us some new stuff like bullit proof textile, or at least something that changes colours to match the terrain using nanotech.... and they come up with...Zippers?
I am a bit dissapointed !
-
Zippers and velcro.... *ziiiiip* *keeersshh*
Shh. Fritz, ze americanz are right behind that bush.

Looks like Arlo's got it about right.

Actually an improved H&K G36 design ;)
And there was talking about it being adaptable for AK ammo with a quick change of barrel and so on, since theres plentiful of ammo around!

what kind of crap is this...great another expensive uniform that we have to buy!! will the pentagon make up their friggen minds already!
-
What you want is a baggy jacket, with big pockets, baggy trousers, cargo pants are for spotty teenagers - you can never fit anything useful in the pockets.
Whoever thought that one up has never lived in the field for 12 weeks at a time.

actually it's allready been in iraq w/ some stryker brigades. Those pockets are not designed for anything usfull other than papers or a map or somthing. Most GIs know you dont keep your smokes in you inside pocket underneith a flack jacket or they will get smashed.
Like I said earlier it sounds very funcitonal.
-
Honestly. Looks like a natural extension of the policy of wearing body armour 24/7 to me. Ya there are not enough pockets but if your wearing armour you cant get to all those mag pockets that were on the old uniforms anyway. And holding a prone fire position when your hip and chest buttons are digging into the chest armour for 40 minutes was a drag. If you have to go lite for some reason and leave your webbing..not alot of places to stuff mags and food but how often do you do that?

Looks french to me.. 8)

The stupidest thing I have ever seen was some Ranger wannabe's who had the big OD Green velcro top watch band covers. We were on an FTX in ROTC and these DA's thought they were hot s*** because they had "all the right kit" to quote one of them. These dweebs had basically bought out the US Cavalry magazine to get to looking so cool.
To make a long story short; the ambush we had on them was about screwed up because of where they came walking in was not what we had expected due to a radio failure from our scout element. Anyway we got tipped off on the mixup by two of the dweebs pulling the velcro on their watch bands to check the time. When they did that all we did was rotate our guys 180 and ease up in a slow crawl about 2 meters to where we could see them. We opened up with our two 60's and grenade simulators and had the whole patrol declared dead.
All this from a bunch of first year ROTC cadets in faded ripstop woodland camo fatigues with floppy hats and jungle boots.

I'm not sure I read it right (even rereading it). Are there three camo color pallets or just an all-in-one? My biggest ***** is the gray color scheme. No more "Army Green..." Looks too bright for woodland environments and too out of place for the desert. Also, the buildings in Iraq "seem" to reflect more yellow/orange. Looks like a good urban uniform for Manhattan.
Yeah Fishu, the M-8 has significantly improved action, I just seem to fall into the "need a bigger round" category. And, it just looks too "space age" with too many space age swappable features that shows how old and set in my ways I've become :)

Didn't continue on with the ROTC commisioning process after my second year. I was given an ultimatum by the Colonel (former Viet Nam SF guy) in charge of the ROTC program when I was in junior college...WELL being a hard headed college football player I chose to stay with playing football rather than pursue my commission as a 2nd Lt. I had two people yelling at me that day one was the Colonel and the other was my Dad (career Army) who started *****ing at me that night when he called me from Saudi Arabia to see what I decided. If I would have taken the ROTC slot I was scheduled for Jump school at Ft. Benning and Mountain Warfare school that summer.
The only two people on my side in the matter were my head football coach and my Grandad (my Dad's father & WW2 US Army vet from SWPAC Theater). So for the first time since way back in the 1700's (as far as I can trace) my immediate family doesn't have a member in some nations armed forces.

velcro closures??? what next bubblewrap boot soles. the only thing louder would be using cowbells for dog tags. oh well, like the saying goes; there are two ways to do anything, the right way and the army way.
