Title: Movie Makin
Post by: XtrmeJ on June 15, 2004, 02:01:30 AM
Posted this in the Film forum as well, figured I'd get better responce here.

Could one of you more knowledgeable guys post (no matter how long and drawn out) the full process in how to put together a movie, and place into a format that runs in windows media play, quicktime ect? Also what programs would be needed, everything one would need to make a film. Ive got wonderful films, and I'd like to start makin films, but have no real knowledge of where to begin. Thanks in advance!

I highly reccomend two programs, Adobe Premiere and Cool Edit Pro 2, the film viewer will not save sound files when you use it to convert them to .avi format, so while you run your film in the film viewer program you will need to record the sound in a seperate program and sync them up later in adobe premiere. Trying to teach you how to edit in one post would be pretty much impossible but the programs I just mentioned are very user friendly and pretty easy to figure out. Would be alot easier if you asked specific questions, but I can definately help you out. I'm an actor primarily but I have done quite a bit of editing.

You cannot buy Cool Edit anymore.  Adobe bought them out and renamed the package Adobe Audition.

hmmm I'll have to go check with my local Software store errr um Kazza and see if they have this Adobe Audition in stock :D

Yes Yes I know Skuzz it kills my connection but I refuse to pay these foolish prices for something like Adobe which I will use maybe once a month or even every couple of months.

Another option other than Adobe, for about the same or a little bit more expensive is Sony Vegas 5.0.  It seems to be a great video editing tool, and has a multitude of plug-ins for it and with it.   I am getting that myself, I held off on buying Sony Screenblast, seeing how one of my squadmates bought it and just said it was an overblown upgrade of Windows movie maker.

A really good tool for captureing or getting AVI's from the game is Fraps.  http://www.fraps.com it has a free version with out sound and the 2.0 version that you are able to record sound with.

Virtual Dub is another tool I use... I want to start making these in Divix format,  I think the quality and compression is good...

Okay Fraps is a screen capturing program... this is how I do it for AH and IL-2

I start the fraps program, then go to AH game film viewer... resize it to 640x480, then start the flight and start recording when needed.  You can program a hotkey to record video with out transfering back and forth.  After that you can find the video in C//:Fraps... and import it into your film editor...

With the bought version of fraps (2.0) you have the option to record the sound with it.   The free version doesn't have this option.

I am by no means a video editing expert.. this is the way I have figured it out and read into it...
