I noticed the bottom tread disapears beneath the ground, leaving the tank to drive on the rollers...

I have noticed the same thing on some airfields, where the wheels of an aircraft will dip beneath the tarmac. Perhaps this is the cause of the 'mysterious objects' causing prop-strikes on on runways?
