Just waundering will this computer work
I updated it to a AMD now chech it out Click Here (http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=807941)
-
Yep, would run it pretty good.
-
Lacking on the processor tho.
-
What do you mean lacking cause i am getting the same processor i dont want to have any anything that wont run ah2.
-
What is the matter with the processor so i can fix it???
-

It is Prescott and it runs very very HOT. Much safer / easier would be INTEL P4 FSB800 2.8G BOX S478 NORTHWOOD.
Prescott works ok but so far I would take northwood.
-
What if i get a good fan??? i want to buy my computer from 1 company and newegg does not have a 2.8g

Yep. It should work.
-
the fan that i have will that work???
-
I didn't catch that go with Northwood. Are you asking fi you current fan in your pc will work? Or if the one you was going to buy for the prescotte cpu?
-
It has thermal paste that comes with the fan. What happens if i did not use the paste???
-
If you don't use the paste you cpu will overheat.
-
THanks just waundering
-
The heat sink you pick out is good. I know a couple of people with the exact same one.
-
how much should you put on???
-

Which fan do you have?
You're buying OEM ver NOT retail. OEM comes without fan.
Get THIS FAN (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-106-032&depa=1) and you should be all set...
WARNING
It's very loud but cools well....
-
Jay I am getting the same cpu as you but I dont see where it says Paste comes with it.
-
The fan we are getting has the paste
-
If the cpu is an OEM this means just what it needs to run. In otherwords just the cpu. Now the heat sink is not OEM it will come with everything you need including paste. All you need is a pea size drop of paste.
-
that big tube and just a pea size???
-

Man, get some Arctic Silver 5, it's only $7 or so
-
No the tube will have enough applications for more than what you need. All you need is a small drop on paste. Then spread it around on the bottm of the heat sink in a thin layer. But like I said the past might be already applied on the bottom on the heat sink. Mine was like that but my brothers had a tube and he had to apply it himself. Also it might have thermal pad. If it does you just attach the heat sink.
-
dang, someone move this thread to "tech support" or somethin'. :)
-
Does it have to be a certain thermal paste??? What is the best thermal paste.
-
No, it dosen't have to be a certian thermal paste. Artic silver is the best you can buy.
-
Jay,
I noticed that you mentioned Newegg doesn't have the Northwood core CPU...No I haven't finished reading the thread but...here it is with the Newegg part number and the cost is $180 for the retail box on this CPU.
Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512K Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - Retail
Model# BX80532PG2800D
Item # N82E16819116161
-
that big tube and just a pea size???
Yes, the coating should not be too thick or you'll just make a mess.
My tip is to use tape to mask off the areas of the heatsink that don't contact the CPU (not much of a concern for Intel processors, but for AMD the surface area of the core is very small), then put a glob of thermal paste on the exposed area and spread it evenly using a card like a credit card (use something you don't really need, I use an expired gym membership). Make sure the paste completely covers the exposed area, but the coating only has to be little more than paper thin. Then take off the tape and attach the heatsink. Nice and neat.
-
the cooler isnt good enough for the prescott your getting
-
You need to go to computergeeks .com and look at their barebones systems....I got more for $100 less than what I saw on your quote.....
-
Yea the 2.8c only has 512mb of catche. But if the catche really does not matter i will change processors.
-
What if I get the same processor but the retail one??? Will the fan that comes with the processor (retail) will the work well???
-
why??? jet??? and??? jay??? put??? three??? question??? marks??? it??? really??? bugs??? me??? and??? i??? do???? belive??? that??? one??? question???? mark??? will??? do??? the??? trick???
:)
now move this to hardware or tech support forum please

Yes, as long as your case has sufficient air flow and you won't overclock.
I always buy retail versions of CPU because of 3 year warranty vs 1 for OEM.
-
I'm buying the retail one then. Also I am getting a better fan then the one that comes with retail.
Does anybody know how to move this thread?
-
What???? How??? When??? but..but..???
LOL Jay and Jet, thanks for the chuckles. You guys just put a bright spot in a dreary day for me. :)
Now, I don't know how you, personaly, can move this thread. I think HTC can do it for you. However, it is probably easier to just start a new thread in the hardware forum.
Wish I knew more about this stuff to help you out, but I am pretty much a dolt in the computer department.
Hope you get sorted out, and are up and running in AHII soon though.
Cheers,
RTR
-
OK, I got the retail 2.8E but I found out that fan sucks, so Click Here (http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=807308) to see my new fan, I think it would work really good
-
Sorry guys I am just a little shaky about buying this computer since I have to set it up I dont want any promblems. I am trying to get the same basic stuff as Jay so he canhelp me in building it.
-
ECS motherboards are poop
-
Snapperhead it will run ah2 thats all I care about.
-
Why not ditch the Intel chip, get an AMD chip and a better motherboard.
-
Dont have money. Plus i dont want to wait to log before getting ah2 already knowing that everybody there has more experence than me.
-
Amd is cheaper than Intel. Just a heads up.
-
It is well than I might look into it but if I do go amd. Can I keep the same fan that I got know. Its the one jay just put on link. And somebody was telling me intel was better than AMD.
-
You do know you are missing HD/CD-DVD/Input (KB-Mouse)/Monitor, yes? I'm guessing you are going to transplant these from your current system?
That system should run AH2 just fine IF that lowball Mobo and Case don't fry. $28 for a 400W PS and case? My Antec 1080 case and 430W PS cost 4X that (you get what you pay for)! Unless you like problems look to quality parts when you build. You might want to concider AMD processor/Mobo for more power at the same price, look at Antec cases, ASUS/ABIT/GIGABYTE mobos etc...
Let me know if I can help you with your build, its what I do...
:aok
-
THanks, I know nothing about AMD:confused: please help me. Also i'm saving money by using my old stuff. I may upgrade the HD though only 20 gig, but i only have Aces High on it.
-
Alright what is a good AMD mobo and cpu i should get and a godd case from newwegg?
-
do some research on the 9600xt 256
I think * that the 128mb memory is faster then the 256 version
-
and whats wrong with the cases we have i really am not up for spending to much more money. But i would like to get a AMd procssor and mobo for atleast 250 altogether.
-
I think the case can get up to 3 fans in it so that my mobo does not fry. I also read the reviews of the products to see what problems things have. They said the case was pretty good for the money.
-
What AMD has the equal value of the intel i am getting?
-
Or can you pick me out a very good Amd processor?
Here is the new link check it out here (http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=807854)

1st of all there is no need to spend twice the amount of money on a Barton 3200, a simple tweak of the motherboard will allow it to run at or above 2ghz.
2nd Stay way away from VIA chipset motherboards, Nforce2 is the only way to go...TRUST ME!!!!!! (major compatibilty issues with the KT chipsets)
3rd Celestica video card...lol....wtf save your $$$$ get the sapphire 128MB 9600XT for cheaper 256MB is pointless
4th if you dont plan on overclocking the stock Heatsink and Fan are fine no need to drop $30, the case I linked earlier has plenty of airflow.
-
How good is the processor I got?
I DONT overclock will to spend the money.
-

The 350W one that is in that case is actually a very good power supply.......You dont need a better one, the 9600 line of cards dont need to be directly plugged into the PS.
-
Take the $80 difference b/t the XP3200 and 2500 buy some a tad bit better memory or more memory
-
Is the 3200 better than the p4 2.8e? What about the 2500??
-
For gaming............yes both AMD processors are
-
My brother just bought the AMD 2500+. Thats a good one to. It very overclockable since the cpu isn't locked. I totally disagree with the VIA chipset and the Nforce. VIA's make good chipsets. So does Nforce. But VIA is proven to be more stable while over clocking. But the Nforce mootherboards can overclock higher. And exactly what compatability problems do they have? I would like to know so if its real bad I can stay away from them myself.
-
is the 2500 faster than the p4 2.8e?
-
Geez, you guys crack me up, about 90% of ya don't have a clue on what your talking about.
Jay, if you would like all the in's & out's on computer and or gaming systems feel free to contact me.
sales@marincomp.com
Have fun
-
Glad I gave you a laugh then. I don't think I said anything incorrect have I? When comparing AMD and Intel cpu don't compare them by the core speeds.
-
Will the power supply they gave work moil?
Will the 2500 work well or should i go with the 3200??

Its pretty simple really, XP processors are better for gaming, VIA chipsets DO have compatibilty problems with hardware, just b/c you have your own "company" doesnt make you an expert. But I guess its a good way to make a sale
-
I see it wasn't just me that thought he made a sales pitch. About the VIA chipset is it the whole KT family? I do agree that XP cpus are better for gaming for various different reasons. I would go into it but its a lot of reasons. But the Intel will do the same but why pay more when you can get it cheaper? Go with the 2500. Its cheaper than the 3200 and get the same results in performance. As for the power supply. As snapper said 350 is enough.
-
I want to stay with the 3200 but check it out 20 dollars cheaper now AH2 Computer (http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=807941)

Hummm, looks to me like Moil is offering help based on his professional experience, not asking for a sale.
But that is just how I read it.

Wasn't the sale pitch part that bother me. Just he said 90 percent of you don't know what your talking about. And just because he has a bussiness dosen't mean he is a "professional" And if he is, he should feel bad instead of critizing people he should correct them instead. Looks good Jay. How long before you get it up and running? Want to see what type of frames rates you get.

Can you guys check out this computer? AH2 Computer (http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=807941) Please tell me if there are any problems.

im curious as to why the 3200+ it only has a slight edge over a 2500+ oced to 11x200 which is 2.2ghz and they only cost 80 bucks .
as for a mainboard i use the asus a7n8x -x or the deluxe
its more $ then your shuttle but its a great mb.
the video card and ram is fine
if i was gonna build with 3200+ id just pay the little extra and go with a 64bit cpu

Thats much better... I'm not one for the "cheapo" Power Supplies that come with low end cases (I actually like the look of the case you picked out) but most work just fine. Worst case scenario is the PS goes and you replace it with a 420W Antec for $50 or so..
This is just one opinion, but it IS an educated one (I'm one of the "chosen" 10%.. LOL)
-
I'll say it again...........dump the XP3200 and just get the retail XP2500, take the $80 and get 1 Gig of memory
-
Jay and Jet....
c'mon lads, fess up...who are you guys? Letterman writers on acid? Too funny guys...keep 'em comin'

First off it's seems "you" included yourself in the 90%, not me.
Second, you state I should feel bad for critizing people and to "correct" them. I'm not going to get into some debate with someone on the BB trying to "correct" them.
I never stated ANYWHERE that you or anyone else was giving incorrect info did I ?
I was simply offering my assistance to the lad with what seemed like a bizillion questions. And no, it wasn't a sales pitch I can't compete with Newegg's prices, however you may save a couple dollars getting parts from them but what if you have a question? or need help? Newegg doesn't offer support on hardware/software compatability. They just simply move hardware & a lot of it.
-
This is Jet and I spend most of our days now that we can't play AH2. Sorry, but you may see alot more than me.
Also I'm willing to spend the extra money for the 3200 also I don't really need a gig of memory because I'm mostly only going to play AH2 on it.
I may change the processor to a 2500 i need to think about it. I really dont want to overclock any system, I will be will to by the processor.

Jay1988...
Drop me an e-mail...I'm also looking to upgrade and have some suggestions. Perhaps we can share some input. My addy is

btw Jay...sorry for the earlier crack I posted...it wasn't at all in keeping with the information you were looking for. I didn't intend to take a cheap shot at you, or Jet...but re-reading it now...that's just how it reads. My sincere apologies.

You may want to check out ebay for used computers. You can pick up nice equipment at reasonable prices. BEWARE however you need to know exactly what you want in a computer and the parts that make it up! This message board is a good starting point but check other sources as well.
Good luck!
