Title: Gunman opens fire outside Walmart in Grand Prairie, TX
Post by: sling322 on June 18, 2004, 11:00:02 AM
Ongoing situation....dont have a lot of details other than what we can hear on the radio.  Guy walked out of the store and pulled a gun and has apparently shot 2 cops and some others.  This is on Carrier and I20.  I work about 2 miles from there.

How soon until Moore gets there to yell at Wal-Mart for selling ammo?

Think the guy will shoot him?

That'd be irony for ya.

Actually....little update.

The guy was in a van that has been in the parking lot for a few days.  Store employees noticed that it was sitting there all night with the engine running.  Manager calls the cops to come check it out.  Cops walk up to do a check to make sure everything is all right and the guy shoots them.  Hit one in the chest and the other in the arm.

They have the highway shut down now and the SWAT team is moving in.

I know youre trying to prove something here - just cant figure out what it is.

Take a look at the time I posted and think about when the news of the beheading showed up.

Maybe we should go apologize, now, eh?  Its all Amereeka's fault.

You were making a slight against CNN for reporting what you impled, by your comment, to be "below the fold" material, which is where some would prefer this story to go to.

I merely replied in kind, albeit with more sarcasm, and the fact you missed the point, suggests that the spirit in which the post was intended went the way of a barry bonds hit baseball on its way to McCovey Cove...

No offense taken, and none given...I'm still sad for you over the Belmont :)

Reporting in from the airport in Miami.

Texas lost a police officer in the line of duty today so lets not dishonor his memory by political bantering.

No doubt he was dedicated to his duty, just to keep going back to work each day, but I'm sure he didn't want to die today.

Texas has lost atleast 4 police officers and two firefighters in the last 2 weeks. Grapevine,Tx lost a firefighter and police officer.

The piece of **** in the van at Wal-Mart is dead btw. From the initial reports it sounds like the officers fatally wounded him in the gun battle.

I just happen to think that some of you people who post here really need to try to think before you post. I doubt that anyone that has posted to date has ever had the responsibility of checking out a suspicious vehicle like those Officers had to do.

The "political" comments are out off line.

In the UK 1 policeman has been killed by firearms while on duty since 1995 - how many police have been killed in the USA in the same period?

Yes last i chekced we also have like what? 6 or 7 times as many people as your island.  So it's pretty hard to compare the two by throwing out stats that you really can't compare to our country because they aren't the same.  There is no way to prove that your gun law work for the U.S. :)

ok on that basis lets say 5 police have been shot and died in the Uk - Uk pop is 55 million btw - plse answer the question  - how many police have died by gunshot whilst on duty in the US during the same period of time?

Gun laws work pretty much the same everywhere - your problem is that you have too many middle aged men wearing camo spandex treating guns as some sort of fetish.

If you want to own guns then don't blubber when police get killed or schools get turned in slaughter houses.

The people who own guns don't blubber about it.  Last i checked you dont need a gun to kill a police officer. Why do you express such an interst in US gunlaws do they affect yoru life in some way?

For some reason cops are most often killed by guns.

Last couple attempts to stab cops (one which have hit) in Finland has been ruined by their protective vests ;)

Pretty certain that that isn't the reason, although perhaps the foreign press leads you to believe so. Attitudes are different here than in your country but we still manage OK. I would rather us have them than not overall, grief for the occasional massacre notwithstanding.

There have been 3 - 4 police officers murdered in the UK in the last 9 years, 1 shot (by an American)

According to the FBI, in the last 9 years in the US, excluding the attacks on Sept 11th 2001, 636 police officers have been murdered on duty.

The US has approx 6 times the population, about 180 times as many police officers murdered.

This was sarcasm if you cannot figgure it out.

It's called the O Club for a reason. Discussions flow from parent thread to tangent and so on, and so on, and so on.

Get over yourself.

It usually starts by one of the NeoCons ranting some insult thinking they are being clever. Then when they are called on it the NeoCon Hijack is a chain reaction success.

Actually, it wasn't an insult. And you had no point. Your being a cop, or a deputy marshall in the Bay Area, or a paintball enthusiast, for that matter, has no bearing on what and how people carry on discussions on this board.

It's pretty easy to pick a fight from behind a keyboard, isn't it.

depends on what you want..  guns prevent millions of crimes here a year including murder.    We pay a professional group (police) to take risks.   They seem willing to take those risks and have very little touble in recruiting.   Most U.S. policemen (not the political chiefs) believe that citizens should be armed.

england is a cess pool of pickpockets and burglars and smash and grab artists.   We lose more cops per year to slipping in the bathtub than to being shot.
