Title: AH2, Pretty thang, huh?
Post by: kj714 on June 18, 2004, 03:39:17 PM
Nice graphics and layouts, did it all last night, gv's, planes, etc..
Looks like Ht and crew must have went to Costco to get the beer and pretzels for that job.

I have a few questions:

To effectively fight air to air, I need my sliders at max performance. I get the best frame rates with horizon, mip mapping and transitions turned off. What the heck are the texture load parameters and where should that be set?

Conversely to fight gv's I need max detail or I cant see them. I was getting the crapola kicked out of me from nowhere until I noticed a smoke trail wandering around by itself. Changed the sliders around and a beat up panzer appeared.

Is there any kind of a video hot key set to make the changes? Even though I know it's probably too late, maybe a customizable hot keys profile could be set up by the user on the fe to switch to for slider settings, and all that other stuff, to make it easy to switch from air to air to air to ground and ground to ground?

My frame rates dropped considerably, but it still plays okay. I racked up several kills last nite and had plenty of fun. Had a good bit of screen stutter at times, I think playing with the slider settings mitigated that to an acceptable level.

LTARprts, I hear you on the gv situation, I was getting killed on 1 pass by N1k's and A6M's when I'm in a m16 and I was pinging the heck out of them from 800 to 300 out at least from my fe's point of view. Not a scratch on them as they blew past. I upped more than once and hit the same guy with the same effect. Oh well, I was never much of a gv gunner guy anyway.

Tanks are fabulous, love that terrain now. I was killed by the same bush a couple of times.

How the heck do you kill a vh?

Salutes are fun, took me a little while to figure out what was going on. I will never complain about "all" channel again, cuz sure enough I tuned to 200.

Anti aliasing & v-sync off or on? Heard it both ways. Does v-sync off increase the rubber bullet effect? Anybody figured out the general performance parameter tricks yet?

The Spit V seems much hotter now, watch out for it.

We can skip the chorus of "get a new computer" replies, mine plays acceptably well, if not great like it did on 1. Don't have the spare cash laying around to put into a system just for this, even if it is only $600 or so. That money is going to Yoshimura and Dynojet to make the bike hotter.:) I think HT and crew did the right thing, cause they've got to program to what average computers will be in a few years to ensure the longevity of their investment in time and money for the new program. Hopefully, I can get a hot gamer next year, I'll just have to chug along till then.

Since in AH2 the "quality" doesn't mean something like more detailed plane models, and "performance" doesn't mean less polygons or reduction in object looks, if you don't do a lot of ground-attacks or anti-GV strikes then having it set to max-performance is a wise choice.

In the case of texture loading, it means how much texture is loaded to the game per 1 frame - strangely, I feel no perrormance loss at all with "Unlimited", so I just use that. Officially, the lower the number to load per frame, it is said better the performance.

Since in A2G strikes GV icons show up from 1500 yards, the ground detail range should be set for at least 1.5 miles, and generic ground detail control(or whatever its officially called), should be set at SHIFT+F1.

Shift+F1 shows all ground details exactly as is set by the sliders. Shift+F2 cancels them out over certain altitudes, around 1~2k I think.. and Shift+F3 gives you the smurfy horizon.

 I'm afraid not.

The same way it was always killed - bring it down wif bombs and rockets or strafing.

Leaving the v-sync on is generally a good idea. In extreme cases there comes a disparity between the displayed frames on your FE, and what's actually going on, if v-sync is off.
