Title: Out of surgery and the hospital
Post by: Chairboy on June 19, 2004, 05:17:51 PM
Hi guys!   I´m posting from sunny Tijuana at a mexican internet cafe.  It is pretty nice down here, but their computer keyboards are awful tricky to use.  Different layout, works in strange ways, etc.

Reference: http://hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119339

The surgery went off perfectly without a hitch.  We went through a barrage of medical tests beforehand, including bloodword, electronic tests of how much fat was in my body, EKG, blood pressure, etc.  Very professional and personable.

Friday morning, we went in and got dressed in the lovely hospital gowns and wore what can only be described as "surgical pantyhose".  I got my IV and meds, then walked to the OR, which was clean and modern looking.  I don't even remember passing out, just waking up afterwards as the transferred me back to my hospital bed.  I was groggy for an hour, but was walking within 30 minutes of the operation ending.  It was their request that I stand up and walk as soon as possible to improve recovery time.

My wife and I slept well last night to satellite radio in our own rooms (which were as nice as any I've been in in the US) on the 16th floor of the hospital slash hotel and were discharged around 10AM this morning.  We're staying at the Lucerna, which is nice, and feel fine.

In response to an early poster on the main thread, I'd like to correct a misconception, this is not a surgery where they just suck out fat.  In fact, I am as fat now as I was when I walked into the place.  It's a long term change that reduces the size of my stomach so I can eat less without my body going into 'famished' mode.  Also, my wife and I have dieted and excercised and the results were always the same.  We would lose a little, then it would creep back or we would plateau.  With this diet, I can eat healthy and plan to lose 100lbs by July 4, 2005.

I'll post more with pictures soon, thanks for all the support!

Regards,
Chairboy

Good news Chairboy.

You identified a problem in your life and actually had the ('xcuse the pun) guts to change it. Not very typical and I admire that.

Speedy recovery to you and yours.

Hi guys!  I'm back at home.  We'll write up a summary of our trip with pictures soon.  We can't eat anything but clear liquids for the next 3 weeks, so it's chicken broth for me.  Somehow, V8 is on list of 'clear liquids', so I figure I'm just a hop skip and jump from recovering on with the aid of Ms. Bloody Mary in both hands.

Still got all Kidneys, and except for a bunch of gas-pockets in my abdomen from the surgery, I feel pretty good.
