Title: Video card Won't install
Post by: michael on June 20, 2004, 10:21:11 PM
I have a problem.   I have a Compaq Presario
                                              AMD Athlon 2.08 ghz
                                              512 sdram
                                              120 GB hard drive
                                               Windows XP home edition

I have a nvida Gforce FX 5200 plus PCI, 128 mb memory.

The new card will not install right.  After installition, the computer
keeps restarting, or will only run in safe mode.

I need some help P L E A S E

Did you shuv it in a PCI slot instead of a AGP slot? :lol

But seriosly. Are you sure you followed the instructions carefully? Also you may have conflicting vid cards. If you have an on board video card, and you add a new one without disabling the first onboard card, you may see problems like this. If you do go into your BIOS and disable that onboard card.

Reinstalled new vid card, still no go, doing same  thing.
went into BIOS and set primary video to PCI.

settings are;  Primary video adapter          PCI
                                                                   AGP/onboard

I have it set to PCI

Im lost

I have is installed into a white slot not the brown one

Are you sure the card you have is not an agp? If the card you have is agp you want primary set to "agp". If it came with a software disk you may have to run the software disk in the BIOS. Try that and let me know. We are going to get this to work :)

It said PCI on the box, and in the instructions

Have you tried running the software threw BIOS? Since it wont let you at all into windows right? BTW AGP is BEST recommended for AH2. You are deffenetly gonna want to buy a card with AGP very soon. My opinion is return the PCI card, and grap an AGP as soon as you can.

Is the AGP card better? and does it install better than the PCI card?

How do you run the disk in BIOS. Im really lost now.

AGP is MUCH better than PCI. I can only guess that it will install better bud. But there is no problem that can't be overcome. If I cant help you with it, someone else I know can. And if all else fails we will email skuzzy (skuzzy is one of the HTC staff, he deals mainly with technical stuff). Since he runs this joint :D
Don't worry, you won't be stuck either way. But you should DEFFENETLY get an AGP card.

covers eyes ()()()() , ,()()()()

please dont tell me that i saw that dreaded word "Compac"

on a better note  ..
lets see you removed the old driver's , shut off the onboard video in the bios ..  try loading the nvidia drivers while your in safe mode . then reboot and  run dx diag .

if that doesnt work then you may have to assign a irq to the correct path for the video card thats located in the pci slot .
( brain is now dead )  i have no idea what  settings to load / allot for this .

worse comes to worse take the pci card back or sell it and get a regular mainboard and a agp card . use the old cpu and ram ect .

I do have a AGP slot on the mother board. It may be best that I return this card and get a AGP card.  Thanks much for all the help.
Look foward to getting this working.

Yah return that card and get an AGP one, you will be much better off, and get greater performance. Know what card your going to get? If you give me a $ I can let ya know the best one to get. Unless you know what ya want. Not saying you don't, just being helpful. :)
