Where is that post you made about the XF4U? Had yellow wings. I need a pic!!
XF4U (http://www.geocities.com/vmf_312/ScreenShots.html?1087790624345) Ignor the insignia and color shades. It was just a test.

While this may make for an interesting skin offline ... two possible issues of note:
1: The XF4U-1 is actually physically different from the F4U-1.
2: It's doubtful that HT would accept the skin since it's of a prototype and not of a combat production aircraft.
Either way, I'd like to see how it eventually turns out. :)

Thanks Arlo
Website comming down?

Arlo u see tyhe VF-17 F4U skin templet?
-
Yeah, not bad. I posted in the thread about the possibility (or not) of skinners being able to create a bubble canopy. But it's a nice skin.
-
OK here it is. Its not finished but I wanted Rafe to see it.

Look great, Hawk and I like the way you skin that XF4U-1.

Rafe I just added another shot so you can see the insignia on the wings. I need to redo the wings but this is the final befor the final!! Click the link and scroll all the way down.Another Angle (http://www.geocities.com/vmf_312/ScreenShots.html?1087863567095)

That's a good job Hawk... maybe when Pacific fighters comes out you can use the void temp for panel lines and weathering... wonder if you can use it in H2H even though it isn't a registered skin?
good to see a flight of 4 of those...

Excellent job, Hawk
I have several pictures of XF4U-1 include the first one crash into Golf Course, but they are all black and white pictures. Also, I agreed with what Stream said about Panel Lines and Weathering, but Pacific Fighters hasn't be out yet and should be by this fall nor winter.
If you get finish on that XF4U-1 skin, I would like to have it :D

The template I am using is from "Geebo". I am just repainting it and removing some "weathering". I need to redo everything and then layer it. The leading edg of the wing is a bicth. I found an area of the leading edge of the wings on the fuselage template
Anyway, when I find a good prewar insignia I will get it finished.
-
Nice job Hawk! I was thinking of doing the yellow wing F4F (but I won't) Do that one next. Make your planes available on the Skins download site.

Eskimo, They are there. The template is there as well. I will add the XF4U a little later. I wanted to make the early F4F "yellow" skin for HTH and paint the "formation" red strips on the wings for squad practices but I need the template.

I have 1/48th models of the SBD, TBD and F4F all painted like that from the Lexington CV2's CAG. I love those pre-war high visibility schemes.

How do you make a skin?
-
I dont know how to make the "Template". Starting out with the skin lines is the hardest and I dont even try it. I wait for some one else to do the hard part. After the skin lines (layer 1) is finished then add other layers such as squad insignia, weathering, fabric textures etc. This way you can go back to the template and modify layers for certain squadron markings. After you are finished with all the layers, creat a duplicate of layer #1. Select layer one then pain the plane. This way you only paint the skin and it paints under all textures!!!! (under all layers). After you finish, save that as template #2, reduce to 256 color, save as plane.bitmap and place in that type aircraft's skin file. Its a little more detailed but thats the basics.....or at least the way I learned how to do it.

slash
first download this
http://www.il2skins.com/files/bright183.zip
that is bright it basicly is a program where you open a bmp w/ it and it will save the file in 256 w/o losing any color in the picutre.
Second make layers for panel lines and rivets and for any markings on the thing.
3.see if you can outline the parts that will be used
4. take a line tool and do the long slow process of going over every panel line you see on the background on your panel line layer.
5. find a source that shows you where rivets are on the plane and put them in the rivets layer.
6. cut and paste markings on their layers you made.
7. paint the background white and you should be done
