Someone mentioned to me about adjusting ports in control panel to help my connect problems, what is it I adjust in there? Im loosin UDP all the time now,and theres no point in even trying,my firewall is on,as it helps a little, its even worse with it off.
Pc is clean after 3 formats this week, registry spotless and cleaned,Adaware run and Im clean,Antivirus run and all clean,Im running Zonealarm Pro,with no problems, had no problems before with it,Im really baffled :(

Hey Joc,
I thought I saw a post syaing you were running Norton somehwere, but I can't find it.
Anyway, in Norton , I had about 6-7 instances of rules created for aceshigh.exe.
These were found in my frire wall settings under "programs"
Anyway, I deleted all instances and "rules" set up for aceshigh.
After that I ran ah2, and then it came to the screen "Norton..blah, blah has detected aceshigh.exe attempting to accees the interent...blah, blah... anyway, at that prompt, I set it to permit all traffic.
Seems to be running fine so far.
I've never run zonealarm, but I'm sure theres a setting in there for program access and defaults. See if you have multiple entrys of aceshigh.exe
Also, A few days ago, I had some real funky stuff showing up on ping plotter.. about 1/2 way through the trip. That's seemed to clear up some.

Hops 5 / 11 /12. looks to be where you might be picking some troubles up. When it hits NYC from across the pond :)
I mean your bullets have to fire all the way across the Atlantic to hit a rook......lol
Then again, I could be full of ****, because i'm not a net guru :)
Where's Skuzzy?

JOC, that is a 30 second sample, how about making it a couple of minutes.
I see BT is now using Sprint for its gateway to the U.S. That is not good.
Although I am leaning a bit towards your computer contracting a bad case of spyware/worms possibly. Have you tried running Adaware and SpyKiller (SpyKiller is not free, but they will do a free scan) to see if you have some bad stuff happening?
Also, bring up the task manager and check the processes. A good clean XP system should be around 19 to 21 processes when nothing else is running.
Watch the CPU utilization at the borrom to see if it is spiking, or constantly showing some level of CPU activity when nothing is running.

Ok,ran it for few mins, umm,pc has been reformatted 3 times this week,so its clean of junk, registry spotless,Adaware run daily so thats clean, all leads to pc checked, Ive literally done everything this end lol,to make sure its all ok,only thing I havent done is threaten my ISP,thats being left to last, its not only AH,I cant even play Bf1942 cos I get 'connection interrupted' all the time 8(,someones gonna pay for this lol
-
It might be an idea to get away from BT if you can, JOC..... I can thoroughly recommend my ISP of Zen (http://www.zen.co.uk/), presuming you are on Broadband? Good Luck anyway. ;)
-
Joc your problem is almost certainly related to routing with sprintlink.
I have suffered being routed through sprintlink in the past and it was not pretty.
From memory somebody generally referred to as the Skuzzmeister (may or may not) ;) in the past mentioned that they are known for overselling there bandwidth. Also providing asynchronous routing where your incoming ping may take a completely different path on return, ie you may get a 100ms ping 1 way and 200ms the other.
If any of the above can be proven to be false, then i was probably drunk and will delete it in a heartbeat :)
I play on broadband from the UK with Nildram, not the cheapest by any means but good.
At one time they changed their routing and Sprintlink was the norm.
I politely explained the problems to Nildram and they very kindly changed the routing to avoid sprintlink.
I somehow doubt you will get BT to take any notice whatsoever.
Ok so this is a pingplot of my routing to AH.
You will notice it only takes 13 hops if you ignore the first which is my router, compared to your 16 and the pingtime is 115ms. Much better than your 139ms.

Flossy would be interested to see a pingplot of Zen connecting to AH.
-
From what I can tell from this side of the pond, Nildram looks pretty good. Much better than BT. Your mileage may, and probably will, invariably, vary.
Cav,. you were not drunk. Quite correct in your post.

I'll seee what I can do.... I don't have this program on my PC at the moment..... :)
-
Well i was considering using NTL as its piped up to the wall of my house.
However after seeing Frankhoos plot i am not even gonna consider it.
Every hop within NTL's network has huge variance ie from 20ms to 196 ms !
-
Yes, between the three of them I have almost always found Nildram to be the best of the lot, from this side of the pond anyways.

Hi Cav >S<

That's not bad, but typical of Sprint. One minute they look great, the next they are trying to find the cable and where to plug it in.
-
dam, eclipse uses sprint too now, instead of alter :(
