Title: P47 and Paddle Blade Prop

I have noticed a number of people requesting HTC to model a "Paddle Blade" prop for the P47. What advantage would be achived by this?

Is this the same as the "high activity" Hamilton Standard propellers?

From researching on the internet, the greater diamiter of this prop would auger many of us on take off and landing. One article gives a 13ft 1 7/8in diameter with only 6in of clearance when the tail lifts to level. I may be confusing several articles, but it would be nice to understand what is driving the request for this propeller.

Only one without a paddle blade is the D-11.  From the D22 on the paddle blade was standard, and as someone else pointed out, was retrofitted in the field to many earlier variants of the D model Jug.

It definately added to performance.

Go find Robert Johnson's book "Thunderbolt".  He'll tell you all about how that big paddle blade transformed the Jug :)

Climbrate was greatly increased with the addition of the paddleblade prop (and subsequently acceleration I am sure).  Dan said the rest.

The requests you heard were to add the paddle blade prop to the D11 (D25/40 already have it).
it's supposed to add about 500 fpm to climb rate and help acceleration. Two things the jug really needs.

This will make the D11 the better fighter of the 3 jugs we have since it's slightly lighter and less draggie than the bubble canopy ones.

I doubt it HTC will ever model it. but i keep hoping.

Is there any chance in the hanger to have selections for known feild upgrades such as the paddel blade prop? At one web site I looked at, it was mentioned the paddel blade prop was a feild upgrade for the D11.

Too bad the XP38K tested with Merlin engines and paddel blade props was never implemented. I ran into that researching P47 paddel blade props.:)

 I am fairly sure no P-38 ever flew with Merlins.


 The P-38K did not have them. I think it just had uprated Alisons with biger paddle props. The cowls had to be redone a bit and this would have caused production delays so it was never implimented.

No merlin powered P-38 ever flew.

Im sorry...I misunderstood you. I misread the article...I was focused on P47's so skimmed it quckly...just reread it in depth...my apology. They used Allison V1710F-15 powerplants in this one...I was thinking Merlin because I was not paing attention to P38's.
