Title: Sights

On planes that are used as divebombers, why can't the F6 bring up a divebomb sight? I don't mean the floating crosshair that you get in training, but something reasonable.

PT boats badly need some sort of Torpedo sight. They all had them on board and for a good reason.

strictly for the reason that they are, infact, "dive" bombers. Most did'nt have any other scope, accept for some had a scope that was next to the regular crosshair for firing primary weapons. Most of bombing was feel. Only level bombers had a sight that could be used for level bombing. And thats the reason "dive" bombers don't have them.

XJ this is a game not a 100% accurate flight sim. 109's, N1K's, A6M's and IL2's didn't have radar, but they have them in the game. It would be an improvement and now would be a good time to add it to the game.

The F6 (and the LOCS) sights for all Planes in AW was one of the worst things about that arcade.

While AH is a game at least it's still on the realistic side of the fence.  And I'm firmly in the camp that would remove inflight AWACS style radar except for those planes that had it.

IMO such a lame feature would be as bad as having powers-ups, "no cockpit" and invunerability orbs.

IT would be nice to be able to toggle between a "fighter" sight and a "divebomb" sight in the MA.

Considering that the K-14 gunsight had that EXACT feature, it's not like it wasn't available in WW2.

But then, that same sight was also lead-computing in A2A mode and..well...we're never going to see such gunsights in AH.   AH is deliberately kept more difficult in that regard (don't confuse difficulty with realism).

Probably the best comprimise currently available in AH is to use a sight that has both A2A and A2G aim points on it if you fly a lot of attack missions.

"don't confuse difficulty with realism"

Certainly not.

As for AH not having the K14 I recall HiTech saying there was a good reasons. Probably as it would make the P-15 too popular with the dweeb ride crowd.

BTW I do not believe the K-14 gun sight ever worked like AW's laser rang finding dive sight did. In RL it did not stay centered on a ground target tracking it as you flew.  It was a gyro stabilised sight and used primarily for calculating lead on enemy aircraft. The version incorporating version did not come into use until the Korean war.

Heya  J_A_B.  Long time no see.

that is right, it was only lead-computational for the A2A mode.    Such sights were also available on some late-war British (the K-14 was based from a British design after all) and German aircraft, but I don't think the Japanese ever had one.   As noted, not having these sights is a choice of the AH developers so asking for them would be pointless as their omission is deliberate.

What WOULD be nice would be an ability to change sights in-flight (I assume you can't do this in AH2, haven't actually tried it yet).  There were some very nice A2G sights that some players had made, but they were invariably badly cluttered for air-to-air work.  Likewise, the A2A sights I favored tended to be useless for A2G, not that I personally dropped many bombs (I think I carried bombs in a fighter maybe 5 times ever, if that).

Yeah good to see you're still around Westy.  I tend to not post much when I'm not active and have never been a fan of making a "noisy exit" so I just sort of disappear when I'm inactive.  Currently I'm debating whether AH2 might be worth trying--with (apparently) no porkable fuel and no night-time in the MA, I'm leaning towards trying it as those were two of my bigger gripes.
