Title: Help for AH II
Post by: omsg on June 23, 2004, 03:16:40 PM
Hi to all! :)
After a lot of time, I want to know to the new version AH-II.
After download first AH2000.EXE, I click AH2000.EXE
After controlling video type, AH-II leaves with it disappeared the window of AH-II.
Then I upgraded AH2000.EXE with AH2000T2002.EXE.
When again I click AH2002.EXE.
He repeated the same problem with AH2000.EXE.
My PC works without problems with WB3, WW2OL and IL2.
I wait your help.

Best Regards!

Welcome to AH omsg! Good to see ya over here. :)
First, make sure you have directx 9 loaded, very important.
If that isn't the problem, please post your system specs here for review.
We can give you better advice once we know your system details.

We definately need more info to help. What info you ask, this is some of it.

Operating system, and is it patched up to date.
What cpu, amount of ram, video card and what driver for the video card.
DirectX version, should be 9.0b the latest.

That will get us started and if we need more, we'll let you know.

And getting nit-picky or technical here. This is where we post game bugs, not ask for specific help. The 'Help and Training' or 'Technical Support' forum would be a better place.

Hi Fuze,
Other simulators are stronger and more MB than AH-II with regard to the requirements.
It cannot be that AH-II don't work in my PC.
I display in this threat the data of my PC that it is very old but it works VERY WELL.
Pentium III - 500 MHZ (bus 100) - 512 RAM

Video Card: ASUS V7700 You SDRAM 64 M.
Video Driver: 4.13.01.1462
Win98 SE (updated from Center Microsoft Last Dates: 2 weeks before).

I believe the minimum for AH2 is a P3 @900Mhz and the minimum video card is a GeForce2 Ultra card. I have a GeF card using 56.64 version drivers, it looks like your using 14.62s. Those are old if not ancient.
I went to vNidia and poked in some stuff and found this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_56.64
You might want to try them.
Just to be sure if I poked in the right numbers go here to doublecheck:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

With that cpu you will definately have to fun at lower graphic details, which I also do because my cpu is only running at 1,333Mhz.

1) after download new version of NVIDIA, I make setup without uninstall my current version driver.
2) in the future, I will buy a new Pentium IV and new card of video but NOW with my current PC, I plan to change motherboard and cpu. Which is the minimum of Motherbaord and CPU of AMD?.
Now it is very difficult to get (look) Motherboard P III and CPU (than or >850 MHZ).
I wait advice or help.

omsg,

How much do you have to spend? With new motherboard/cpu you may need ram and power supply.

omsg,

To give you reccomendations on the type of motherboard cpu you need, I need to know :
1. How much are you willing to spend?
2. What type of ram do you have currently? (speed - PC2100 etc)
3. What is size of your power supply?

If you buy a motherboard/cpu and you don't check that you ram / powersupply is supported/sufficient then you would be stuck with making another purchase (your ram may not be ddr - it is most likely pc100 and so you will have to buy)

Your original system is quite old and that is the more compelling reason for asking these questions

this will be a fine PC to run AH.

do not buy a video that is built in to the motherboard. get an AGP card.

for now, i say you might not be able to play. your current PC is a little to slow.

i am sorry.

PS hope this all translates well <<>> and welcome to Aces High by the way!

Please post your budget i.e. how much do you want to spend. From this I will give advice. SUggest you use http://www.pricewatch.com

Or just go to newegg.com (i like this website)
To save on cost shoot for AMD 2500 - 2800+ Xp with 333 fsb. Plan on buying 350 W power supply and 512 MB ram
Motherboard - asus a7vnx pretty good but then so are most of the nforce 2 motherboards for these cpus.

Again - tell me your budget and I'll tell you what is good. Small budget - cheaper components. LArger budget - better stuff

Here are some directions and a utility to safely remove old Detonator drivers before you install the new ones.
http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=detonatorrip&menu=0

Basically you want to change your video adapter to a standard VGA adaptor with the Add New Hardware option in Control panel or change it thru Display Adapter, then with add/remove programs option, remove your nVidia driver. Then run this utility to be sure all has ben removed and then install the new video drivers.

This was from my memory so double check this with the instructions on the webpage I have linked above.

http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/ (http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/)
It is a program designed to help you uninstall Nvidia drivers.

The BASIC steps are
1)uninstall nvidia drivers from Add/Remove programs
2)after reboot install standard VGA drivers
3)after reboot install latest nvidia drivers
4)*optional* after final reboot i usually reinstall DirectX

With Detonator Destroyer, it gives you a walk through pop up window telling you what to do.  You launch and run DD 1st, your told to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, and then go BACK to DD and it destroys the hard to delete traces of the Nvidia drivers so you get a clean install.

Hope this helps.  Make sure you are using the lates 56.xx driver version.

p.s. basically what fuze said.

Whats the difference betwen Detonator Destroyer and Detonator R.I.P.  or so minor it doesn't matter? I linked to RIP, I thought it was a newer one but either should work.

Fuze, I am pretty sure you are right, Detonator RIP is indeed the newer version. It is my understanding that Detonator Destroyer works better for removing older drivers, in older systems, with older cards. It might be a good idea to look at the notes for both.

On advice from Skuzzy, I'm running the older drivers for my GeForce 3 Ti 200, I think they are 28.32 or somewhere around that. The reason is that it wouldn't run AH I with newer drivers. I run AH II about the same as I did AH I, about 85 FPS (vsync on) most of the time, dropping to as low as about 40 FPS. I MAY try newer drivers now that AH I was slipped this mortal coil. I'm going to get a new card, this one is a terrible choke point on my rig.

I was thinking that HTC said GeForce 2 cards simply would not run AH II because of some issues with the code and how it works with DX9. Some may have found a workaround.

I remember one point about the GeF2 cards, it was the Ultra version they were using I believe which is the higher end of that model line.
I went ahead and got the latest ones to solve my z-buffer issue on my GeF4 Ti4200 I use now. I only have a Athlon XP1500+ which runs @1,333 and I'm dipping into the 20s in shift F1 mode.
Time for me to dip into something else to bump my frame rate up.

I'm running a Barton 2500+ Mobile at 2500MHz, and 512MB of PC4000 RAM (220FSB Dual Channel aggressive) to get where I am, so I'm pretty sure the GeFarce 3 Ti 200 is my bottleneck. I may bite the bullet and buy a Radeon Pro 9800 (I'll get a refurb from NewEgg if I buy that high end of a card). As good as my card is running AH II now, I hate to take a chance on updating my drivers. I'm sure it will go all the way, one way or the other. Either killer results, or a total disaster. My luck it will be a disaster, of epic proportions.

Hell Last night I was dipping into the lower 20's in shift F2 mode.
but it would also zoom into the 80s at a moments notice. and often from one to the other in the blink of an eye reguardless of  graphic or sound situation.
Hell I'd be happy if I had framertes in the upper 30s if it would just be stable

Ran wonderfully freash out of beta
But with each patch it seems to be getting more and more unstable
Tried everything from moving the sliders to  adjusting my sound acceleration.
Next move is Im going to uninstall then reinstall everything. Game, Vid drivers, sound drivers, DirX
And see if that helps
and if that dont work. Im gonna practice  punting with my wifes cats LOL
Sure that wont help but it will make me feel better.
And after all. they are only cats LMAO
