Mr Ryan, 44, admitted taking his former wife, Jeri, on "romantic getaways" and once visiting an "avant-garde nightclub in Paris" but denied indulging in the activities she described in newly unsealed divorce papers.

Aaaargh a Rep under french influence!!! The HORROR!!!

Honestly, I find this deliciously ironic :D

LOL.. those Brits.

I say so what... I mean what does taking his wife in for a monthly gang bang have to do with being a good Senator??? If the wife wants to pull an AMTRAK every now and then it doesn't have any affect on the last vote for appropriations.. now does it?? Heck, maybe the little skank insisted and he had to oblige just to get the free time to read pending legislation.

I'd be googling the heck outta the internet looking for the video LOL.

Honestly, I think using personal info like this for political gain is inappropriate and unfair. I disliked it when it was used on Clinton, I disliked it when it was used on Dole, and I dislike it here.

Hell, I disliked it when Robert Crane's sexual behavior was brought up post mortem. By all accounts, his lifestyle did not impact him as a father, nor as a public figure. And this type of journalism takes away for the real issues. I think this guy's got some decent ideas. I can't say I'd vote for him, but I'd listen.

And we already know what some guys  like Toad would say if the guy were Democrat as well.

Jack Ryan steals the Red October from the Russians. Single Handedly saves Iceland in WW3, Takes the helm after the Japs take out the whole combined house and the President while planting a virus that crashes the Stock Market.  He has saved america(and Prince Charles) countless times!
And you want to hang him out to dry just because he liked watching Jeri have sex with me..
You guys are pretty mean sprited

But I know I'd be saying exactly the same thing regardless of party affiliation.

It used to be only the Democrats had interesting politicians in Illinois. First the Gov. and now this :)

The big beef here (at least in the news) is similar to the Clinton affair... Ryan denied to the press that there was anything of the sort in his divorce papers and that the suff he was trying to keep closed was related to his child's developmental disabilities.

Pretty mild stuff. Summer's slow for news so that helps the "scandal" (7 of 9 hottie helps too). The Republican party is probably making more out of it than anybody, and I doubt voters on either side really care all that much aside for the general gossip factor.

Republicans set themseleves up for extra criticism by being the party of 'family values' and after dragging the country through impeachment over a BJ.   So when Republicans are caught doing  this kind of stuff, it exposes them as sanctimonious hypocrites.

That is my preliminary read, I need to look at more pics of her before coming to a final decision.

With the couple contesting custody of Alex, Mrs Ryan, now 36, accused her husband of taking her to clubs in New York and Paris in 1998 and in one asking her to have sex with him in front of strangers.

One of the New York clubs had "cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling", she said in evidence in 2000. He then asked her to have sex with him in front of another couple but she refused, she claimed. He also asked her "to perform a sexual activity upon him and he specifically asked other people to watch".

So doing your own wife makes you a sanctimonious hypocrite?

As I see it, he was not swinging, he was bragging.

What REALLY REALLY PISSES me off about this is neither one of them wanted this released to the press because it was in thier DIVORCE RECORDS and it was a MEDIA outlet that convinced a judge to make the public.

THAT"S JUST WRONG!

Dem or Repub the MEDIA should not be able to get private records released to the public.

said earlier people to things in a divorce in order to get their kids.  IT HAPPENS.  I'm not saying its happening here but HELL!

Sorry but rep or dem this guy'd COURT RECORDS for divorce are not public property and if he was a LIBERAL that fact would be HUGE NEWS and a republican conspiracy!

PS if I was w/ 7 of 9 I would not need other woman

Actually the problem is that he lied to his political party saying that there was nothing in the divorce papers that could cause either him or the party embarresment. The bigger issue being that this could lose the Republicans their majority in the House.

Since you seem pissed off all the time that does not say very much.

Anyway, what makes you think divorce records (or other Court records) are presumed to be private?  In America, they aren't.

Ryan drops out of Senate race in Illinois (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/06/25/il.ryan/index.html)

The Clinton Book (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5246371/site/newsweek/)

Quote
Yet Clinton never concedes any legal missteps.

During his January 1998 deposition in the Paula Jones case, in which he denied having "sexual relations" with Lewinsky, Clinton writes: "I would have answered … truthfully" if the Jones lawyer had asked the right, specific questions.

Clinton was later found in contempt by Susan Webber Wright, the federal judge who presided over the deposition, for giving what she called "false, misleading and evasive answers that were designed to obstruct the judicial process"—words that aren’t quoted in the book.

Let's see, one admits it and drops out of the race, the other lies under oath.

and you might say the one guy is still lying about it. At least one person who probably knows the facts says he's still lying.

Really too bad. I don't think many of the voters, even Republicans in the state, really cared all that much about the "scandal."

Quote
Let's see, one admits it and drops out of the race, the other lies under oath.

I don't really think he "dropped out of the race" as much as he was dropped by his party. Just like when a staffer "resigns." He certainly went to some length to avoid dealing with the issue head on, including lying, until he had no choice but to confront it. I guess most people would.

Quote
Ryan abruptly canceled a planned Thursday trip to Capitol Hill, where Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, expressed his disappointment in the allegations and pointedly declined to offer words of support for Ryan.

And the Illinois congressional delegation had been largely silent about Ryan, leaving him to fend for himself. One Republican, Rep. Ray LaHood, had even called for Ryan to withdraw from the race.

Apparently you don't just have to be gay wanting to get married to be considered immoral by the Republican leadership. Just want to do things with your wife that others might find offensive.
