Title: Bomber formation parameters

Does anyone know what the flight parameters are for keeping a bomber fomration together and if they have been changed?

The reason I ask is that I actually saw a group of Lancasters start a shallow dive bombing run on a base, they then did a Loop and proceeded to drop bombs again.  All 3 planes stayed in a nice formation.  

I have had it explained to me how to keep them in a group on the dive part but the above sighting seems a bit much.
