What is the reason they were moved to underneath the plane ?

among other things, for the icon to be less visible when the plane is otd.

I'd say to also force people to learn to read the range without the icon, it's more efficient that way.

The old style icon (above the plane) allowed one to pull lead shot, with the enemy under the nose, and still be able to track its position by following the icon.

This, IMO, is one of the major changes that have people in fits and feeling that the gunnery is much harder ... and it is ... hehe.

No more icon crutch.

I specifically asked HiTech about this last week when he was online. My only complaint was that on the deck the icon was buried in the ground. HiTech's response was "The icon change was my idea - pretty cool, huh?"
