This is not directed at anyone in particular. It's just that I'm seeing people quit the game because their hardware can't hack it.
I know there may be cases of financial hardship, but otherwise it sounds rather like giving up driving because ethyl/4-star leaded fuel is no longer available, and the motoring world has had to adjust to catalytic converters and unleaded.
For those whining about their systems not being able to hack it, let me say that the hardware requirements were published in various forums months and months ago. This was all being discussed in the first half of last year.
Accept that hardware upgrade is a fact of life in the gaming world, and pay attention to the board announcements next time.
You want pretty graphics? Well that costs, and right here is where you start paying!

Yea what the brit/french guy said!
-
Yeah they Cry and complain but after two weeks of no AH they will be shaking from withdrawals and running to the computer store for a new puter... Trust me on that one.... Addicts always piss and moan when the cost of drugs rises....

The irony of this is, if people quit because they can't run AH2, then the chances are there won't be any games they'd be able to run in the market anyway.
I don't expect any of them will ever move to FA, WB or WW2OL. Then what are their alternatives in the market??
FB/AEP is already a systems hog.
IL2/FB's latest series Pacific Fighters is coming in the near future.. which looks like this..
Later, the Battle of Britain will be available sometime in 2005, which will be even more heavier than anything we've got now.
..
So, if they not in AH2 where they gonna go? AH2 is still pretty much the most undemanding system for a game of such status.
-
Whats really ironic is often its eaither a "cheap" fix like vid card or better yet just tweaking their system some.
I got a low end puter right now 866Mhz cpu/ 512 mb ram/ and a nvidia fx5200 and I run the game just fine 25fps on the deck or in GV's and upwards of a steady 60+ when im at 2K or above altitude. ive listen to several guys LITERALLY screaming and cussing on vox about the low FR or stutters and its ussually cause they have out of date drivers. When I try to tell them well....its like teaching a child, err no a child would get it.
And just in case anyones wondering anything past 25 frames per second....the human eye cant see ! the guys who HAVE to have 100FPS or they "cant" play jsut crack me up!:rofl
-
What you may be missing here is that a good percentage of folks who are complaining or questiong AH II has way beyond the required system requirements and top of the line Vid/graphics cards, new updated drivers, tweaked to the max, excellent frame rates, etc and the game still won`t run to an acceptable level as it stands at the moment.
Some folks with inferior systems and cards are saying that the game is running smooth as silk without a hitch. For them I am proud. Now if it can be worked out to a playable level for everyone that is up to date system wise it will be great.
-
I think HT needs to be cut a little slack here. A new release of software is always painful for everyone involved. I'm sure they are working quite hard to resolve the issues and that they will eventually be resolved.

What cracks me up are the experts on everything in this place.

I will look for a link to the "I_know_what_is_wrong_with_eve ryones_computer.com" site and post it also. Maybe those guys scream because they already have the latest drivers and video cards?

I heard the human eye can't see any difference above 60FPS.

Yeah the H/W requirements were listed & published some time ago, I'll agree.
What was not "published" some time ago was the fact that if you had a good system or even a great system the game was going to run poorly, CTD, lockup, have countless bugs and not look much better tnan the original.
OH, and you state "pretty graphics" and where are these "pretty graphics" you speak of ?
If I or anyone else spent big dollars {or even just a few hundred} to make the upgrades "that everyone should have known about" and the game looked like the one pictured above {IL2} I could COMPLETLY agree, I think we would ALL be jumping up & down. Well it's not even in the same league my friend:(

Question, You can see my system specs on the bottom.
My problem is wildly unstable framerates 20-85. often jumping now form one end to the other in the blink of en eye And this is while in flight. near as I can tell I cant tie it to either graphics ,furball, smoke, etc or sounds, Vox, engines, explosions, nor even all combined.
Tried adjusting textures and detail settings in the game as well as sound card acceleration and changing my graphic card settings from detail to performance all to no avail
All drivers updated within the last month including DirXB, All windows is fully updated.
What tweaks are working for you?
Any suggestions?

While not intended as a kick at HTC
On this point I have to agree
The Graphics are ok. Certainly better then AHI but I wouldnt call them spectacular.
I ran on my old P500 and a 64 meg card "B17 the mighty 8th" and IMHO those graphics were for the most part better then what AHII has now.
All in all Im ok with the graphics we have now.
I just wish I could get it to run more stable

There was someone on Ch200 last night talking about bad frame rates and how he was a computer engineer and had the best equipment and all. I told him I was running 75 fps with a boxed HP invent about a year old with the default AH graphics settings. He asked me what resolution I was running.
1024x768
Then he say's he's running 1600 by something.
Seems an engineer would try a lower resolution.

well .. 32 for film (like in theaters)
but with a moniter i can totally see a 60mhz refersh compared to a 85. above that though, i cant tell the diff just by looking at a 85 and a 120.
i forgot where i heard, but i think 72mhz is the refresh rate threshold for most people to not see flickering.

Really gets old hearing some of these self-appointed brainiacs doggin on folks who are irked over hardware upgrade requirements.
Give it a rest and remember when you were broke before you spout off. You aint all that, and your economic superiority isn't really impressive.

My system isn't all that leading edge. Nice mobo (A7N8X deluxe), then a very middling XP2600 processor which runs at 1.9GHz. The video card is also middling - ATi Radeon 9600 Amateur, and I have the latest drivers which were published this month. And I'm getting 60-75fps normally. That's with antialiasing maxed out at 6X and anisotropic filtering at 4X. Those settings make the graphics much sharper, and stop the trailing edge of your wings from looking like hacksaw blades.
Also, if your fps is jumping from one extreme to the other, you probably don't have Vsync turned on. It should be ON.
How do I know all this? I'm no brainiac, but I DO read the forums to see what other guys are doing, and discuss these matters. There's a wealth of knowledge in there. Try it sometime.
Now for the cost of upgrading - if some of that gun money were instead spent on useful things like computer upgrades... ;)

I`ll give up my gun when they pry it from my cold, dead hands. :)
