Title: patch 3 problems
Post by: paulobrien6969 on June 25, 2004, 09:14:00 AM
since patch 3 i have had stutter problems i have had everyone telling me put sliders to the right to performance,go to dxdiag
and slide it to the left, have you got the latest drivers , its your pc its your pc, blah blah blah
basically i had no problems running this game before patch 3
so through a process of illimination its got to be something that was changed from the last patch to this that has caused my problem
i have more than enough pc power to run this game
and have spent the last three hours tweaking every possabilty.
i had to stop playing today because i couldnt take it anymore.
i have yet another video card on order i have a 128mb at the moment and have a 256 on the way which is way beyond what is supposidly specified

more or less ditto.

Frames are still fine, but I can't get close to another plane without a 1 or 2 second stutter and was fine before.

1.4 ghz Athlon
sb live
128 meg DDR
FX 5200 128 meg

256 on your vid card isnt going to help you I am afraid - I hope you upgraded the core.

oh well but regardless of my video card my system was
running this game smoothly before this patch
only yesterday morning i was just getting used to the gunnery and flying and was really enjoying myself and to have this problem has really spoilt my fun

...which should lead you to the conclusion that your hardware is fine and await the next patch form HTC instead.

I have the same problem as you Paul. The game ran good before patch 3. Now the ground looks like it is having problems catching up with the plane. What I mean by that instead of going out of view smoothly it studders.

i have played the game for an hour or so today after getting annoyed with it earlier and the major stuttering stopped ie going down to 1fps and was playable but the land below still stutters
in a constant way and as i said i did not have this before patch three
ive calmed down since earlier im not giving up on it:)

Actually, it sounds as if you've got a PC virus.  I had one, and didn't really know it, then I went into AH and got FR's dropping to 1 as you describe.  Cleaned up the system and got rid of the virus, and everything went back to normal.

Paul: Also when you change max texture sizes, expect a few studders for the first while. Play at least 15 mins to see if they smoth out.

With the new patch every time I try to use a ship gun the game shuts down. When I try to fly the c47 it acts like it's stuck in mud.
I never had any problems before the patch 3 was downloaded:confused:

ive run 4 different virus scans inclucing norton 2004
and run two different spyware programs and apart from a few minor spyware programs i have no viruses
i played the game after completly cleaning out my system and the stutters are still there
as i stated at the start of this thread i had absolutly no problem with this before patch 3 and can only deduse that this has something to do with the way the textures are loaded since patch 3?

Here's a bit of info:

I'm running an intel celeron 2.6 GHz with 256 MB ram
A Geforce FX 5200 vid card (PCI version).

I too was experienceing screen stutters. Patience seems to be the cure. It took about 45 minutes or so, but they just stopped on their own. It seems it takes a while for everything to load up.

As far as FPS goes, I was running this set up in 800X600 and 128, all sliders set to perormance. AA off Anisotropic filtering off, ran enditall, sound card at 3/4 etc. My FR's were playable but would drop to the high teens in a furball. They were never steady, and it was very irritating.

I ended up boosting my resolution to 1280x1024, set my texture to 256, set the sliders to about midway. Just tried it to see how much performance hit I would get.

Well, my FPS actually dropped a bit, but stays pretty steady between high 30's to high 20's, even in a furball, OTD, in smoke with a loaded pair of shorts.

By making my vid card work a bit, it seems to actually perform a little better.

I am getting by with just 256 MB ram, but I bet  boosting it to 512 would see even better performance.

Paulobrien I would try boosting your ram, applying a little patience, and playing around with the game settings.

Worked wonders for me.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
RTR

Also depends on what OS your running with that 256.

XP is a memory hog. 256 would be tough. Runnin ME or 98SE is a different story.

256 for XP prolly isn't enough. Shoot for 512 minimum, that's just another stick of 256.

Ideally a gig covers all bases if your MB can accept it.
