i remember long ago AH1 origional 88mm flak code was really awsome but then it got canned for low system usage version that is the worst most unrealistic annoying thing in aces high.
there is nothing i despise in this game more than having psychic nonstop flak following me around with no lead time no bullet travel time just a countdown timer to death with the only escape being below a certain altitude.
bah.

despite the jetbjay spam machine attempt to derail this thread with its usual worthless schizophrenic drivel the thread remains intact in its intent to voice dislike for the AI flak code which is very annoying and now with ah2 its AT EVERY SINGLE BASE!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR RRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

seriously.
the ai 88mm and cv flak coding is not realistic and I would love to see it revisited to improve realism.

i remember long ago AH1 origional 88mm flak code was really awsome
Please explain how it was different for those of us who have not been here long enough to know
-
the old code (before carrier fleets were added) computed the travel time of the rounds to target so you could evade by changing course and you would often see the shells exploding where you would have been if you didnt evade.
aparently the code for this was quite a system hog and when carriers were added this detailed ai system was abandoned for the current random cloud of black puffs that will follow you around in a fixed distance from your plane and always be there while you are in range.
now with alll this fancy new stuff there is a need for some fancy new ai flak code.

i can understand why fester would want change in the ack....its almost as if its following HIM..lol...I recall one day when XJ ManeTMP,Kappa,Fester ,and i had been on a sorte..Out of no where the ack starts up(the puffy kind)..and BOOM!...Fester's soon to be 12kill sortie...cutt short by lazer guided ack :)
-
damn, you guys must be true flak magnets if your referring to the black puffy type.
I usaually just ignore it as I fly through it as I rarely ever get hit by it let alone killed by it
-
I would like the puffy ack if it was the way Fester described. It would make it more effective on big planes travelling slowly in straight lines (i.e. bombers on a bomb run), and less effective on small planes flying erraticly at various speeds (i.e. fighters in a fight).

And the flack code allready does exactly what you ask urchin.

And, this is the mark of a good thread..when you have awakened the sleeping beast from the bowels of his cave(hitech)

Yeah, I remember the old flak code.
I remember instantly dropping from 60 to 5 FPS the instant the fleet guns opened up....
The current system isn't perfect, but it's at least playable.

tested that very same thing Dale just mentioned....
and its true....
fly a fighter straight for a couple of sec's and boom.....
-
Having the puffy flak at every base IS probably a little excessive.
What is its rebuild time when destroyed?

Although the current heavy AA is much more likely to hit if you fly straight and level it LOOKS like it follows you around no matter how you manoeuvre. With a sudden reversal you ought to see the flak exploding away behind you for a while. The current system is really irritating and ruins suspension of disbelief IMO.
I don't see why this should be an FPS killer either. The host just has to calculate a position in space where it wants to put the next flak box (where the targetted plane will be in 30 secs, or whatever). It then sends out packets to all nearby planes saying when and where it is to be centred. All the affected FEs then show the box at that position at that time. Anyone within the box may get damaged.

Yeah, it's been pissing me off too with it's "lazer" accuracy.
One time I was bombing a strat that was pretty much dug into a range of mountains when I ran out of ord. So I decided to return home and land the plane. But to return home I had to climb out over the mountains infront of me. So I gained some alt. The whole time puffy ack shooting near me.
I figured the best way to stop them from shooting me was to descend right after I flew over the top of the mountain. So I made it over and started to loose alt. Too my surprise the ack was still shooting at me! And with "lazer" accuracy. I mean, it was right next to me... So I thought to myself... Self, how is this possible? Unless the rounds are going THROUGH the mountain it's not. They would have to have the round go over the mountain and dive back down to hit me....
Maybe they have mortar ack? :lol
So I think there needs to be some fixing also.
