I am going to be there next week and am going to try a grab a beer with Lizking up in Austin. I think Lizking has the Austin places covered and I will know more on Monday when I get there but San Antonio is lost on me. I have a couple of customers in San Antonio that I need to sort of smooth things over with and need a good steak house recommendation to take these guys to.

I think If I remember right, There's a Hard Rock Cafe near the river walk or near the Almao(Close to the mall) and there is Outback Steakhouse somewhere in San Antonio.

Good Lord, Man! The only reason to eat anything at a HRC is if you are too drunk to go somewhere else. For that matter, the only reason to BE in a HRC is if you are too drunk to be somewhere else.
You don't eat steak in SA, you eat Mexican food, and let them serve you their interpretation of steak. Just eat at Mi Tierra at El Mercado every day and Dick's Last Resort on the Riverwalk (for late night snacking).
The only other prime choice is the Wetmore Store for burgers and Sea Island Shrimphut-order only the Shrimp-Skewers, number 8, I think.

Don't forget Shilo's (in SA) for lunch sometime. It's a German style deli. Love that place.

Shilo's is located on the street, not on the River Walk. Papa Fritz Schilo, a German immigrant, founded the deli. He opened a saloon in 1917, but when Prohibition came along he converted the operation to a deli. It was a lucky break for diners; mere suds could never match the subs and sandwiches that keep this deli packed with locals. Try a Rueben or a ham and cheese, or go all out for dinner with entrees like Wiener schnitzel or bratwurst.

hey reschke.... my dad lived there for about 3 years (and is like a total food critic) i will trust his advise any day and 10 times on sunday. will ask him and let you know.

Go buy a portable grill, lighter fluid and some charcoal.
Go out of town a ways and find a field with some Longhorns in it.
Bring a chainsaw.
You figure out the rest.

I am not going to Hard Rock Cafe unless I can help it. In fact Monday is a light day in Austin for me since I land around lunch time and will be hunting the hotel shortly after that. Fortunately one of my customers is between the airport and the hotel so I get to knock one down right off the bat.
That just leaves me having to call Lizking on Monday when I land so he can point the way to a good steak in Austin on Monday night. The rest it seems is going to be up to me. When I am in San Antonio I will drop in on the recommended eating locations there as well.
Tumor they don't take credit cards in fields and they don't like people killing Longhorns just to grill 'em. At least thats what I have heard.

Barn Door, close to airport in San Antonio just off the 410.
Awesome steaks/food and they even have a butcher shop in house.
Been there since 1950's I think, just remember was very good.
