I don't have a puter as yet to rejoin game, been out for 4 months now and with draw is horrible....
If anyone knowledgeable in computers can give advice i'd greatly appreciate it:D
i plan on building from scratch which i have never done before.
so advice on good motherboard and etc would be great...

go to newegg.com.
If you don't mind price build a abs puter at abspc.com.
Give the folks here a pricerange. I could take that price and see what you can get, then send you the specs. Sound good?
-
Thank extreme..
i figure close to a $700 or $800 for starters then can always upgrade.
vid card will be extra so will be the monitor.
this price range is for tower accessories like hd mb etc
i want to build it strictly for gaming.
thanks again

give me 5 min. :D Do you want an ABS manufactured PC? Or just any good parts that are compatable together?
-
also do you want a Pentium or AMD Anthlon based system?
AMD handles heat a lil better
Pentium is great for gaming too
They both have their strengths and weakness's but are basically tied. Your choice tho
-
been involved with amd for years, maybe try entium for a change.
would like to build with various parts the work awesomely together
-
OK, just found out I'm gonna be busy most of the day. My puter just came in and I have to do some things. Alright if I relay the specs tommarow?
-
cc be back in a couple days

Hiya Sadist,
Hope ya get the new box built soon, in the mean time here's
one for you. What's the difference between a sadist and a masochist?
A masochist says "hurt me! hurt me!"
A sadist says "............................. ....no." :)

Hey there Sadist.
Was wondering where you wandered off to.
Good luck on the new build.
And remember what I always say.

Sadist,
If you are considering a system....you may want to give the guys at digitalcomputech.com a call. The fellas there actually play AH2 and have for years.
My system was built with them and was designed with AH2 in mind....great fellas with TOTAL support from them.
Regards:)

Try looking this combo up..
$ 109.00 ASUS A7N8x-E Deluxe
$ 88.00 AMD XP2500+ Mobile CPU..It easily overclocks to 2.5 Gig with a aircooled $25 heatsink...
Pay special attention to this CPU do your reading...Its the best deal out there for cost to performance
With this mainboard look at the Nvidia 5900 128 from gainward It has a very highend memory and comes with a faster clock speed then any of the other Fx5900 cards..This board is kick butt with all nvidia, this is due to the Nvidia chipset...
OOPs forgot to mention this board has SATA Raid also and Dual Channel memory...
Good Luck

3 gig DDR will be a waste of money IMO.
1 Gig is more than enough right now...you can always add memory later if needed.

I have this system since a week (built myself), it works great so far:
ASUS K8V SE DeLuxe w/ wireless slot
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Spire KestrelRing II Cooler
2x512 MB PMI DDR400
HIS Excalibur 9800 Pro 128MB Ice Q
Maxtor 120 GB ATA133 8MB 7200rpm
LG DVD
Sony DRU-700A DVD RW Double Layer
AOpen Case H500B
Floppy
Win XP Home SP1
Acer 1711 LCD Monitor
A couple of notes:
- assembling the whole was pretty straightforward, but the ASUS wireless slot with its proprietary connector was a bit of a ****** to install...I guess it depends on your case.
- the Spire cooler came with a tube of thermal paste, but no instructions. Don't do like me and do a google search on the web for the correct way to apply the paste. I had put way too much and I realized it just before the 1st power on. I had to disassemble everything, buy another tube of paste and begin from scratch again.
- I should have bought a SATA150 HDD instead... :o
- the case came with a Fortron 300W PFC power supply. Although a good one, I was afraid that the rated power output would be marginal with the AMD, the vid card with an oversized cooler and the Sony DVD-RW. So I replaced it with a Thermaltake 420 W PFC and the voltages seem to be pretty stable.
- the case is really good (rails to install the devices in the CD/DVD bays, front panel w/ 2xUSB/speakers/mic/IEEE1394, simple but ingenious system to feed the CPU cooler with fresh air from outside the case...) but it had no reset button . I bought a small push button that I installed on a plate covering a PCI slot and it works like a breeze.
Have fun with the building...
