If I see one more "I'M CANCELLING MY ACCOUNT!" thread. :lol
-
lol i were about to post something like that as well .. :D
-
LOL - I've looked forward to this whinefest and account cancellation fest. :lol

Well I must say I do feel sorry for those who really can't afford to update their computers.
The whines about bugs, etc... however are a crock. The game has a few bugs to squash and as someone said, is a living thing with many great new features to come.
I'm looking forward to the regular updates of new planes, etc... in the future once all bugs are dealt with.

I'm cancelling my account unless HTC can fix the following very serious bug!
AH2 seems to reduce my checking account by $14.95 US every month. I've tried new drivers, and even a new version of MS-Money, but the bug hasn't disappeared.
The bug itself has a ripple effect in that it also crashes More Premium Cigars 1.0 and seems to be bundled with an intermittent pop-up called "Angry Spouse." I was hoping that AH2 would find and fix the serious money leak in my account, but its still there. This is a major impediment to my enjoying the game!

Doh Dipstick! I agree with you!! Certainly there is a plethora of younger players, and over here in Blighty I have calculated that upgrading to a decent mobo, CPU, DDR memory and video card could come to around £250. Some people may also need to upgrade the monitor in order to get one with a sufficiently high refresh rate, and clearly the sums involved are substantial for the younger players.
But... (and I must word this carefully because skuzzy's watching me) ... I see thread after thread after thread about guns: guys buying the latest most macho firearm they can lay their hands on, and such items are often looked upon as "toys". And there are many such toy owners on this board, and many owners have several of these toys. And the cost of these toys surely heavily outweighs the cost of a PC upgrade...
...so it's funny how I never see guys whining about the cost of guns, and yet a handful of computer components is considered to be out of reach...
And furthermore, the upgrade requirements were made known MONTHS ago. I had my new system components handpicked by this time last year. How long does it take to save £250? So I put it to you that most of the hardware inadequacy whiners were probably too busy scorewhoring in AH1 to try out the beta and/or to read the hardware requirements discussions. As a result, my sympathy is rather limited.

I kind of feel sorry for the people who can't afford to upgrade either, however, that is the computer world, games will advance and require better hardware, a game that is suposed to update every so often can't be expected to be played with the same system in 2004 as it was in 2000. When it comes to computers, 4 years is a very long time.
So like I said, I feel sorry for those who can't upgrade but I don't agree with those who whine about AH2 being a system hog.

Computer ain't gonna save your life. It's an American thing bud. :) I got my 9mm (it's NOT a toy) and that's all I need. Best not to come by my house during the night unannounced.. :lol

That's right Dipstick, cause I've SEEN you naked and it ain't pretty!

uhhhh....ummmmm.....NEVERMIND!
Computer upgrades are just part of being a gamer. I started with an XT-10 and a state-of-the-art EGA video card (16 colors for you whipper snappers) that had a whopping 256K of RAM on the card. If you wanna play computer games you need to resign yourself to buying an upgrade every 1.5-2 years, either that or a whole new computer every 3 years. I have done just that for about 15 years now. I have a decent video card (9800-pro = $175) but my Mobo and CPU (XP-2100+) are holding me back right now. Then again the mobo/cpu are almost two years old now.
I am tired of hearing people announce they're quitting too. I am also tired of folks complaining about bugs when I do not recall seeing those same folks around during the ~8 months this thing was in beta. But I am most amused to see guys flying in AH2 that were pi$$ing and moaning about how they weould not be able to fly it :D

I must admit that I got a huge belly laugh from that quote... For I am quilty as charged! I cancelled my account because my old comp. won't run the new version of aces high. And then I picked this up at a local estate auction...

I spent just about the same amount on this as I would have on the required upgrade, but lack of money was not the reason for taking a break from the game. I thought the warm weather and longer evenings of this summer would be better spent fishing with my kid. I'll upgrade and play again when the fish stop biting and it gets dark again right after supper.
Although if I only had the money in my pocket for one choice... They worked all the bugs out of this toy fifty years ago. :D
Cheers! goaly

Polka, how is the barrel in that thing? I had one a few years back that I LOVED but the barrel was so worn the .30-06 bullets would just bounce around insided it before falling out the end.

I tried playing the beta 6 months ago and couldn't. Now I have no choice but to play AHII, which imho is still 'beta'.
Why do we have to pay to play a 'not ready for prime time' game?
:p

We don't. Play it as it is, or don't play at all.
-
Or, just walk away from it. I've completely uninstalled AH2 after 2 maddening nights in a row. I'll spare the details, but well documented issues. And rather than whine...I'll keep the account available for future patches, which Im sure will come.
I wish AH1 was around while AH2 is being tweaked, but it isnt.
I'll be watching the update/news page and perhaps dive on in again later.
-
Sorry to hear that, LePaul. I've got an Asus A7N8X, XP2600, ATi Radeon Amateur, and 500MB of memory. Not an especially high spec, but AH2 runs like a charm - 50-70fps, which is ample.

You've never spent good money (or bad I guess) on a program that was not up to the task? Seems that Windows XP alone is enough of a beta that gaming in AH2 is a piece of cake. I don't find this testing a pain. If not for the input of lots of beta testers this thing may have never "gotten off the ground". Besides there is always IL-2.
Peace
