I had a grand total of three game crashes tonight, two of them were totally inexplicable, mid-flight game exits, one of them was some sort of cv gunnery bug that exits the game everytime i try to man a cv gun now.
Countless times, my frame rate dropped from a fairly smooth and decent 85fps to a dismal 6 or 7 for no apparent reason regardless of detail or video settings.
Small Screen freezes continue everytime someone drops an ord, keys up on mic, or I change views to look behind me.
You can't see ground vehicles you need to line up on until your nearly on top of them, you can't take enemy fuel down anymore? Fuel Burn rate is ridiculous, two sectors is all i get in a f4u with drop tank???
I am still getting see through squares on the mountains, even though I have reported this one on the AH2 Bugs repeatedly.
The game FREAKS OUT if I get an IM or a popup, and I don't mean a simple game exit type crash, i mean I have to reach down and cut my system off.
When i close or start the game, my computer sits there for almost a minute, sometimes longer doing absolutely nothing but 'freaking' and even after the game has supposedly closed completely my system runs like a **** for about three minutes.
And for god's sake don't tell me I need to upgrade my PC, I mean jesus I can edit and render NTSC quality video while listening to tunes on my mp3 player, but I can't run a fighter sim?
Don't ask me where I was during the beta testing either, I played the beta I reported bugs and problems.
Two years in development, several months of beta testing, literally thousands of feedback posts and reports and this is a releasable, final version?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE(d) the game, I love the friends I have made through the game over the years, I have played this thing for three years now, formed and commanded one of the finest squads in the MA (oink). I am patiently awaiting fixes to a plethora of bugs, and I humbly accept changes to the game that i don't particularly like. I send my money in every month. But I do not enjoy it anywhere near as much as AH1, nor do i enjoy paying the same money for what i feel to be a work in progress. AH2 was not ready for release, IMO. The reaction of the community and the number of people that we have lost should stand to support this. Well over half my squad is gone, and a good many players in the MA who have held on are not happy with it either.
I am a loyal customer, I have reccomended this game to many friends, I pretty much play it on a daily basis, and as so many others, am completely sold on the concept, but I have to say that I do not agree with the release of this version, I do not like this version, it was not ready to be forced out yet. It is buggy to the point of being unpleasant.
The opinion of many members here in the BB is upgrade or get lost  Is this HTC's opinion as well?
I have no plans to cancel my account at the moment, as I hold to the hope that HTC's otherwise impeccable record of customer service will hold true and the game will improve with input and time, but it is something that is going to have happen pretty soon to keep me and many others on board.
Oh Yeah...
As far as this BB is concerned, just about every thread that gets started here becomes a festival of belligerence and affrontiveness and many of you seem to delight in making personal comments about the poster being a whiner or what have you. I'm pretty well sick of that attitude, and to those I would say to you to grow up and let people express an opinion without the cheap shots and obnoxious whiner rhetoric. This post is an expression of my opinions regarding AH2, if you don't like or agree with it, then that is fine and dandy, but if you can't come up with something relevant or perhaps non-confrontational, start your own "I'm a jerk" thread and have at each other... You guys don't seem to realize that we set the standards for this community by our posts, let people voice an opinion without personal remarks for once, you might be suprised at the improvement. I don't know about some of you, but I was taught to respect the opinions of others.

So why have IM programs running? I close down everything before launching AH as it has long been said that other programs running in the background will cause problems. Also, if you suffer from popups, that suggests you may need to check your system for spyware - clearing that out will then make a big difference to how the game runs. As has been said elsewhere in these forums - many problems are with individual systems, and are nothing to do with the game.
Yes there are bugs and as fast as they are reported, HTC are bringing out patches to cure them; however, if more people had taken part in the Beta, a lot of the bugs which are showing up now might have been squashed earlier.
I personally think HTC have done a great job with AH2 and I enjoy playing it as much as I did AH1 and AW before that. :)
-
Flossy, I think if you run IM it can open pop-up advertisements too. I might be wrong though.

Maybe. Like I said, I always close down IM programs before launching AH anyway and eliminate the risk of any popups. If I want to keep any IM programs accessible while I am playing, they are open on a laptop beside me. :)
-
Yea, I keep everything closed too.
I was just saying.

CTD while in gunner positions has been tracked down to the squads folder.
Until HT fixes it delete any .bmp files in your squad folder.
-
Twitchy,
Nicely said.
Kids downloaded bunch of spyware last weekend.
I ran spy-bot/ adaware got rid of most.
Still had 28 bad files that Norton identified as as rick files.
Manually went in and deleted all of them.
Puter runs alot better.
Drftr
P.S. Grew up in Asheville and Maggie Valley area. Lots family in that area.

Twichy.
Sounds like your system needs good spring cleaning with adaware, regcleaner and av. If you are anything like me, you have several smaller apps and sharware programs that you dont really need........dump them.

In the MOTD that was listed as "field gunner".
Who has anything in their squad folder yet?
-
Twitchy would it be safe to say that your file can placed in the Unhappy Camper folder? :)

I would bet that crap like spyware (active and poorly removed) and IM and all sorts of background processes are behind most of this. I have AH2 running on two different systems with none of these problems.
I might try loading it on a third, but I know that system is only marginally stable and needs a complete reformat.

I haven't even got round to downloading the release of AH2 yet. Hope to see you sometime soon Twitchy and in between your PC crashes.

I did upgrade to a new computer and was on the telephone with High Tech when I bought it but still having problems. I also miss alot of the guys and gals that quit because their computers could not handle the new version or they did not like it." Oink Pigs" will stay on a little longer and hope HT will fix this mess.

I go to services on my computer & shut down messenger from there. That helped me in AH1, don't know about AH2 yet.

How in the world could you grow up in asheville then want to move to florida Drifter1234?? Yuck! I could never leave the mountains and be happy about it. While your down there though, teach them flat landers how to cook some real BBQ!

I got on the night before last, and a new patch was up.. so I downloaded it, as the little bar increased I sat there and thought to myself, "well cool, they have fixed some bugs, or made something work right", but it was only a new range icon...
sigh..
Why are we getting patches to create a new icon range when the game is still bugged up???
I kinda feel like I'm paying 15 bucks to help debug a beta now...
I have heard alot of folk on the BB say this "isn't a box game", well right you are, a box game is usually debugged thoroughly before its release and there is a clear understanding of the system requirements needed to run the game. It isn't my system, I have tweaked and cleaned and updated drivers and even ran a system restore to try to get my end of it worked out, something I would not normally end up having to do. I don't mean to sound so negative but I'm fairly frustrated.
-
So cancel your account, and leave us in peace please.
AH is never, ever going back to AH1.
-
Twitchy: The range icon took about 2 mins to implement, It just happen to be included in a patch. The patch was only for bug fixes, have you looked at the readme's.
In fact have you installed Patch 4. Notice It was released on a weekend? And if you expect AH to play nicly with popups. I don't belive you will ever be happy.

Ya know when I first started flying AH I had software issues. My computer would run it just fine but I had to clean up the reg and other things to do so.I thought the game was porked till someone filled me in on how to fix it.Sounds like aLOT of people have a mess on the HD or other issues with there computers and just want to place the blame on AH instead of looking inside the box and finding the issue on there end.Guess some just like to complaign.
-
Hitech
The pop up was just one of several issues I have run into with AH2, and no I cant read the 'read me' cause a bug causes the squad MOTD to cover it up when i sign on.
What does being released on a weekend have to do with it, are you guys normally closed on weekends (just asking)?
Like I said guys, I LOVE the game, I have been playing it for years, but yes it has bugs that need fixed, bad. I kinow you guys are catching alot of flack and getting a load of complaints at the moment, but don't get defensive with legitimate complaints, instead let's figure out the bugs, squash them and get everybody back up and running. About the only response I have seen so far is "it's your system" or "It's spyware" or "you need to upgrade"... I have done all I can do on my end, I have run spyware detectors, I have cleaned my registry, I disable my antivirus, before I play I open task manager even and end everything useless, I defraged it, I updated drivers, i went so far as to restore my entire system for this game. I can't do anything else. I can't run out and buy a new system or a new video card, hell a gallon of milk is four dollars here now with three kids chuggin on it. My end of the bargain is to pay 14.95 a month and to have a decent system, I am willing to go the extra yardage and give you guys feedback, report bugs, etc. I don't want to quit AH2, I want to see it fixed. I'm willing to give it time and feedback to help, but as a customer, I feel I have a paid for right to be disgruntled with game bugs and it is my understanding that this forum is to discuss things. If I'm wrong than I will happily delete my post, cease my feedback and close out my BB membership, If I am right, then how about asking me what other problems I am having and lets figure out what and why and fix them.
Drdea..
Yeah your right, I'm sure it's my system (which runs every other program I have ever installed on it fine) It couldn't be game bugs...
I was wondering when when kewassa and assosciates were going to get on this thread and bad mouth...
I refer you to my earlier friend..
"As far as this BB is concerned, just about every thread that gets started here becomes a festival of belligerence and affrontiveness and many of you seem to delight in making personal comments about the poster being a whiner or what have you. Erm.... you can either read the readme when installing the patch.... or all Readme files are in your AH directory - latest is "readme2004.txt". :)

I call BS there. I haven't bought a box game in the last couple of years, particularly a simulation box game, that didn't require some major tweaks to work well, including being unplayable until a patch is released 6 months after the game came out, a la LO:MAC.
You want frustration bud, go buy a box game and then find out that the publishers or developers have gone out of business or been laid off, and the game doesn't work on anything except the reference system it was developed on, in house without player beta testing. With racing simulation games like Nascar 2003, Grand Prix Legends, and F12002 they would be either stale or unplayable without significant hacking by the unpaid community that supports them now that the publishers have either abandoned them or fired their creators.
HTC are the best of the bunch in the game development world. I've just done a Masters paper on IT developments and my 8000 word essay was on the growth of Internet based gaming communities over the background of developments in social and cultural attitudes to computers, gaming, and games development. There's more SNAFU out there than not, and HTC, like Kesmai before them (at their peak at least) are paragons of development and game design compared to EA, Sierra, and even id software.
I think you're probably a little frustrated that AH2 is subtly but substantially different to AH1. I wouldn;t like to see you leave because you're a grade "A" character.
Hang in there Twitchy.
-
Shoulda been in on the WW2ol fiasko.Half the crap on the "Box" wasnt even developed yet. This is by far better than most games you get from the box.
-
I don't see any refrence to your OS. or any spec info. Maybe the long wind through me off. ;-)
I also don't see you listing any REAL tweaks. turning this off that on,.... but I don't see you attacking any meat.
YOU have a bottleneck, period. All it takes is the right one out of hundreds that could pinch you off.
And if HT's post seemed rude, then I think maybe you have some issues, not HT.
Have you checked BIOS settings?
I don't think anyone knows how to help you because we know so little about what you have or have done, other then you may in fact actually be more long winded then me. ;-)
I have a PIII 450 with a *POS* GF420 MX
It pulls a 25 FPS on the runway in AH2. granted that won't pass around other objects, but sheeesh man. it's a 450.
A simple basic fact of life, the bottleneck is on your end, not HT's.
Why don't you list what you have and what you've done. That would go along way all by itself.
good luck

True but a box game is a one off cost or no cost at all. depending on where you get it from. And I can't remember the last boxed game I bought or copied that was "unplayable due to system probs and/or crashes" would have to go back as far as Falcon 4.0 which was a real can of worms.
AH is ongoing $15 a month and I understand twitchy's point of view that he feels as if he's paying $15 a month to do beta testing and work out why his system is always crashing.

LO:MAC and WWIIOL were both unplayable out of the box, and the 1.2 patch for LO:MAC was only released three weeks ago.
I can afford the spread out payments from AH2 a lot better than I can a one off of $100, and surely you aren't suggesting copying games? :)
He may well be having to work out problems with his system, but all boxed game manufacturers would have abandoned Twitchy to his fate by now, and he would be very unlikely to have direct recourse to the development team via email, phone, or a bulletin board like this one. All boxed publishers websites are cheerleading sites, and the place to get support for EA games for instance, is from a fan site specific to the particular game you need help with.
I prefer this business model to the take their money and run model that most game publishers seem to operate.

And my system specs are supposedly well within the minimal requirements to run AH2 while it isn't top of the line, it works fine, when it isn't crashing on me I get a frame rate of 85...
1.9 GH Athlon AMD
GEForce 4 440 64mghz
Audigy Platinum Pro 2
Windows XP
85 hz monitor
256 mg RAM
DX 9.0
Your telling me that it is my system, my bottleneck? I can edit and render NTSC quality video on my system while playing mp3's, no other game I have installed has had any critical errors or CTD's, I have had no problems whatsoever with my system, but everyone seems to be having similar issues and yet a few of you continue insist that it is not game bugs. Pretty bad ones, that need acknowleged and dealt with. CTD's are a game killer.
Like I said I know that it is tough on HTC right now, alot of issues, alot of complaints and cancellations, but IMO these are beta level bugs and AH2 wasn't ready to be released, much less forced out on us. By denying that the bugs exsist, or blaming them on a fairly common and otherwise good running system isn't going to get the bugs addressed and dealt with.
I'm glad you can run the game perfectly with no problems, but there are ALOT of us out here that are experiencing problems.
I know it is is a new game, I know that it will take some time to work problems out, but CTD's and stutters, freezes, total system lock outs, see through mountains, these are real problems not bottlenecks or illusions. What I am so dissapointed in is the fact them saying "it is your system" to everyone. Nobody has a perfect system, from the day you turn your computer on for the first time, things start screwing up, but I don't have any other problems, nor do alot of the people having similar problems. I have one squaddie who just bought a brand spanking new computer just for this game, a high end machine and he has alot of the same bugs I do. If I was the only one having a problem then would be a different story.
It boils down to this, I want my game back! I play it every day!
But I want to cut the game on and sit back and not worry about CTD's or being able to see through mountains or loosing my perks points and ranking because my screen freezes long enough to send me into the ground. I have (had rather) a 30 member squad, one of the best in the arena, and am loosing that to AH2 as well and yes I'm a little bothered by it.
Admit we have bugs, fix the bugs, and let us know that the issues are being dealt with, that is all I'm asking. I don't like paying to debug, I am willing to do it, but I want to see results, feedback, affirmations not "it's your system" or "it's spyware". My system runs like a top and has since I bought it. I am no computer genius, but I know how to keep spyware off of it, and I know how to cut off IM's, but last night I lost a three kill sortie due to a screen freeze and that's why I am complaining.
I love this game, and I love this comapany, I wouldn't have subscribed to it for three years now if I didn't, but I am disaapointed and eager to see some confirmation and resolution here, please. I don't want to quit, I don't want to give up on a game that I can honestly say is one of the few that i enjoy and find worth paying for, but fix it! Call me a whiner and tell me I have a crappy system, given that I was able to run AH1 perfectly for three years, what kind of business strategy is that?
We should get a free hotdog or something out of it at least until the bugs get worked out. (if you guys go with the hotdog idea, I would like mine with relish, chili onions and mustard btw)
Am i the only one on here that is having game bugs???
Bottom line is this....
I want to play AH2, I want to send you guys my money, I don't want to play a game with code errors or CTD's.

twitchy: My specs:
1.7 Ghz PIII
128MB Nvidia 4800 (?!?) Video Card (It's at home and I'm at work)
512MB Ram
Win XP Pro
85 MhZ monitor
DX 9.0
Soundblaster (cheapest one on market)
DSL Connection through 100 Mbs LAN shared with 3 other users.
My system RAM is higher than yours but I'm not sure that would make that much of a difference. As you say you do a high level of video compression
Video Card perhaps?
This is an untweaked system I use it for too many OTHER things to worry about AH specific performance. Frame Rate sits at about 59 most of the time. Textures set to 512.
Hardly an Uber Box by any means.

Hajo had a post on here about your Sound card.Said he had to yank it out because it caused all kinds of issues.I would pull that out and see if it helps. His post in in this pile somewhere.Do a search for it.Might just be the issue.

Conisder this metaphor...
Suppose you liked steak, and you went to a steak house, one that you had been going to faithfully for years. They always had a really good deal on a really good steak and excellent service (we'll thorw in cute waitresses here just for prosterity). So you sit down this time to order and they say, well we don't have your usual any more, we have a new big fat juicy super steak though, and before you can say anything they run off into the kitchen to cook it up. You wait and wait while you hear them back there clamboring around and after a while the waiter comes out with a huge, juicy, massive and delightful hunk of meat, but it is RAW. They set it in fornt of you, hand you the bill and when you complain about it being raw, they tell you "Well, its the way you are holding your fork." or "Your stomach just can't handle it." or even worse, "Eat the steak, or get out of here!"
Edit:
Then as you sit there, trying to explain to the waiter that your fork always worked fine before, people at the tables next to you begin saying, "hey my steak is raw too!" But back in the back corner, a few guys are sitting at a table with the restraunt owner and they are saying "Don't listen to that guy man, he's holding his fork wrong." or "Listen to that whiner! Why the nerve complaining about a Raw steak!" or "I like buying raw steak!"

As far as Falcon 4.0, Lomac and IL-2 series is concerned, it wasn't the case.
I'd even dare to state that AH2 was smoother than those sims at initial release.

I had already read and responded to that thread, I think the Audigy 2 is probably one of the best sound cards on the market, or at least it was when it came out. Never had an issue with it except when I first installed it about two years ago and then it was only because windows didn't seem to want to 'let go' of my default sound cards drivers. I don't think that the major bugs that I have seen are going to be system related, and if they are than AH2 is in trouble becuase I have a fairly common set up and a fairly recent system.

Twitchy,
Do you pronounce it LEE-cester or Lester.
Growing up area the multi-generational people from that community pronunced it Lester.
Why would I move to Florida? Growing up in Asheville during the 70's and early 80's it was a rural community with not much as far as nightlife or decent jobs. After getting out of Military I went to work in Charlotte and got a better Job offer In Pensacola. Whoa year round golf , most beautiful beaches in the country, Bikinis, no state income taxes, low cost of living, New Orleans 3 hrs away, Biloxi casinos 1-1/2 away, Did I say Bikinis, (we are really south alabama) lotta great BBQ in bama.
Been going back home to the mountains couple times a year for last 4-5 yrs. My gradparents live in Arden and my step-mother is Communication Director at the Grove Park Inn (Cheap Rooms) and what a change that area has made. It has entertainment, culture and has awaken from it's sleepy past. Asked what the happy hour special was at the TGIF's in Biltmore and was told NC outlawed "happy hour" what no happy hour "Oh the horror". At Christmas I told my wife that I have traveled the world and been to most places in the Us and Pensacola is the only place I would live besides the mountains (wife is from Kingsport TN).
side note as a teenager use to ride my bike and fish at the base of Cold Mountain. Beautiful place than is very special. If I win the Florida lottery I will by a summer home up there. You can come sit on my porch and sip a beer in the summer breeze with me.
Shoppe my family (clan) migrated from Burnsville to Asheville in the 30's remember going to my Great-Granfathers' farm in Burnsville on the weekends. My great-grandmother cooked on a wood burning stove.
Sorry from the soapy Hijack
Let the flames on everyone resume
Cheers
