In another thread Nilsen made the statement that there seemed to be more conservatives in AH than liberals...that is, if one went by opinions exhibited on the bbs.
I have to admit, I never thought about it. It always seemed to me that there were large numbers of people of both major politcal persuasions posting in here.
However, I got to thinking, if the vote for president were to be held today, right now, this very minute...how would my compatriots in AH vote? Bush or Kerry? What would the results indicate about the type of person who plays a virtual wargame? Do they tend to be more conservative...or liberal...or neither?
This unofficial poll is the result. Post your preferences here...and please keep comments civil and to a minimum. Please vote ONLY ONCET! Also post major party memberships or affiliations...or lack thereof.
On your mark...get set...BANG!
-
I'd vote for Nilsen.
-
whoever drove me to the polls & gave me the most free cigs and beer, and told me who to vote for & explained the ballot to me ... though I don't drink or smoke :)
-
Methinks that thou art not taking this seriously. Fie upon thee, thou louse-ridden, un-washed, buffoonish knave.
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits!
Bush.............I have no political affiliations.
-
Many would like for the upcoming election to be all about just getting rid of Bush. Unfortunately for them (and maybe all of us) the Democrats have failed to select a viable candidate. I mean really, all they can do is bash Bush when Kerry's record proves he is not a leader and has no vision. See for yourself: http://politicalhumor.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nojohnkerry.org%2F Click the flip flop archive and scroll down.

Kerry.
I'd seen enough of Bush while he had Austin hijacked. I'm willing to give someone else a chance. Bush can run again in '08 if he wants.
-
Do you really have to ask......
-
Vote is tied...two to two...
rpm and Schadenfreude vote for Kerry...
Ak and Shuckins for Bush...
Isn't this exciting!
-
Third party.
-
I had a pollster interview me just a week ago.
She asked, "If the presidential election were held today, and you were not going to cast a vote for or against one of the major party candidates, which of the following candidates (of those not listed) would you be less disinclined to vote against?"
I replied undecided.
-
RALPH NADER !!!!!!!!!:aok :aok :aok

All the free people in the world live here in the USA. The rest of you guys aren't free, in fact you are quite expensive. You get in silly little wars and we have to come and rescue you. Then we have to rebuild you. Very boring.
-
Well, I can speak for all the AK's so put Bush down for about 50+ AKs.
;)
-
One for McCain...
One for Nader...(ahee)
Two for Bush...
One for Kerry...(amongst registered, U.S. voters)
Two votes cast by citizens from the State of Inebriation for Nowon Inpartic Ular.

He lives in a Democratic Republic.
As I have been led to believe in the past, employees of the government are not allowed to publicly support any candidate. Not a smart move to do anyway, in case your candidate loses. ;)

The way it was explained to me was that as a paid representitve of the goverment any thing I say publicly could be seen as an offical endorsment by the goverment, and that by making such statements I am misusing my office and position, especially when no exact position has been set forth by my department. In the same vein of thought Gvt Employees cant "run" for partisan public office, hold shares of stock in companys working on projects they can have "inside" knowlage about, or make statements that could conflict with offical policy.
This dosent mean that I can't have an opinion, just that If I state it and some one hearing it knows I work for the Govt, they could take it as official policy, which would then be an abuse of my position as a Govt worker.
This is a rule that has some teeth to it too. Just recently they fired an Air Traffic Controller that ran for Mayor of Albuquerque for infringing that regluation.
I dont mind too much, as the pay is good, a lot of the tech is cutting edge, and I can say I help keep the puplic safe as they travel.
My opinion counts, but it has to stay "mine"

when i was in the navy i was told not to ansewer any question relating to what i did without my superiors saying it was ok. If i was dressed in civilian clothing or if i was asked my personal opinion i could say whatever i wanted.
ie. Paper: what do you personally think about the war in iraq? Nilsen: I think its a wrong move.
Paper: Is it a good thing for norway to be in Iraq? Nilsen: My goverment has deciede that that we are gonna go to Iraq to help them with rebuilding their infrastructure, and we do.
-
I understand where you are coming from, but the policy here was put in to place to keep Govt workers from abusing thier positions. It is a sad fact that too many would beleve statments as fact rather than find out the truth for themselfs. Not to mention what the News pepole do with interviews.

Leaning towards Kerry, but I'd probably vote 3rd party if I had to vote today.

I think pretty much yes, though not always the current parties.
Leviathn is the political science guy here he likely has a better answer for you.

Isnt it difficult to find a party that really fits you if you only have 2 ?

Oh wait, there are many other parties in the USA, it's just that only 2 seem to matter over time - that was my point.

you mean that matter in the national elections?
-
Yes.
-
yes there are those but we have 4 large partys and 4 smaller once. The labor party is one of the larger with aobut 30% and the christian democrats you speak of has 5-6% so its one of the small but they have the PM.

The electoral college makes it very difficult for a third party to get a toe-hold.
