ok. seeing as my last thread was not vvery effective in gaining a simple answer on this subject, i will ask again:#
which card is better for running AH2:
'eVGA FX5200 8X AGP 128MB TV-O, DVI'
or:
'ATI Radeon 9200 SE AGP 128MB TV-O'
a simple 'one or the other answer would be nice'
(now waiting for some smart guy to say "there is no simple answer, first lets take these 10,000 factors into consideration....")
:aok

I'd say the FX5200. The FX5200 is a 128MB chip where as the 9200 is also 128 bit chip, the fill rate is better on the FX5200. Get the FX5200. ;)
-
If it were my business, I would certainly refrain from anything that may appear to be an endorsment of one product over another.
you might do a BBS search using each card name. You might be able to gather relative performance data that way.

PS: there is no simple answer :)
-
Dont know about the Radeon 9200, but quite a few folks are having good luck with the FX5200. I had an FX5200 256M before I upgraded to an FX5900 and it worked fine, in hindsight I should not have wasted to money to upgrade to the 5900.

All I hear about is problems in this game with the ATI cards.
It's prolly not ATI fault but if your buying a new card I CERTAINLY wouldn't buy a ATI.
Nvidia baaaaaby.
No problems at all.

Not sure what your hearing or where ya heard it, but thats simply not true.
May I suggest checking out the forums at...
http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum/wwwthreads.pl
The ATI cards consistantly score better in benchmarking, and I dont hear anyone flying with an FX5xxx getting huge fps numbers. Lets see what happens when the Geforce 6800 comes out.
I have all my sliders to the left, been running in 1024 res and my fps are staedy 84fps. They never drop! They would be higher if not for my monitor only being able to do 85hz.
If I disable Vsync then the fps go to over 200. No tearing! No artifacts.
Not saying you wont get good results with an Nvidia card, but Nvidia is not the leader it "used" to be.
Anyone looking to invest money in a good card should do plenty of research and make an informed decision based on good information.

mechanic: I realy don't know how each card performs.

I have run ATI's for 5 years now. And i am using an ATI now.
As for AH2 im with Poop.
But dude....Spend several hours here in the BBS...you will see clearly the the ATI dudes are reporting more problems.

I hate to say it, but most of those people probably dont know what they are doing.
Do they have the latest drivers, did they purge old drivers prior to installing new ones.
Do the maintain their systems correctly.
There are many other factors involved here, and I assure you it isnt ATI.
-
ZZ3 there is a problem with the performance of the higher end ATI cards in AH2. Nice generalization though..
I hate to say it, but most of those people probably don’t know what they are doing.

If you have the answers as you are trying to make us believe. Then proof is in the pudding...Teach us, Give us facts what are you doing so differently then the majority of others.
Quick question: You are you running XP Pro. If so how many rescores are you running?

It's the old "Ford vs Chevy" debate. Both are good cards. Glad you got a deal on the FX5200. I paid $90something for mine last November.

Did you even shop around ? 80 bucks for that card..Bummer..

thanks kalamori, but the majority of people said they had better results with the FX5200 and there have been problems reported with the ATI range.
as for shopping around, i think $78 (thats the final price with tax and postage from USA to london!) is not a bad price (for me its about £45) which is less than a days work so if i could have got a better deal somewhere else then i maybe should have searched more but, im not going to worry about a few $/£ here or there.
thanks to everyone for your advice. sorry if i dint follow your advice kalamori

It had nothing to do with my advise you posted twice on the same issue, when many told you what you wanted to know in the first. Not to mention theres endless posts on what you were asking to begin with. A bit of work on your part would have answered your question..
Good luck
Nice try on making this personal...Didnt work....

I changed from the Nvidia line to the Radeon line very recently. I had the TNT, TNT2, GF2, GF3, GF4 (no MXs anywhere in there) and just bought a 9800 pro. I think you cannot go wrong with either family as long as you do not choose the cheaper ones (like the MX family). The only thing I can say that the ATIs have an edge on is color brightness and saturation. I'd give the overall framerate edge to Nvidia. Nvidia used to have an advantage in software and drivers but ATI has closed the gap in that regard and it is a wash now.
You should be ahppy with that card...GL!

Nvidea is better suited for AH
-
kamori...
Im sorry you think I dont have a clue as to what I'm talking about. Thankfully I do know a thing or two with regard to PC hardware and configuration. I speak for myself on this point.
Your question about proof is somewhat ambiguous.
One size does not fit all in the PC world, however, if you are running a somewhat modern system, with an ATI Radeon 9xxx card you should be able to configue it to run this game with out a hitch, and run it well. If it isnt I havent found a problem with AHII yet that caused it. My sys, and 2 systems that my kids have run great!! All ATI.
Want specifics give me a system rundown. (a problem sys) Then I can give good advice.
I think your just looking for a fight, by trying or implying to discredit me. I dont care.
kamori states...
"Quick question: You are you running XP Pro. If so how many
rescores are you running? "
Well, do you mean processes running? Do you mean resourse percentage free?
Ok 36 processes, and 75% free.
Oh, I run a firewall, and Norton while playing, no problems.

buying a video card sucks. plain and simple.
I am looking tonight for a new card and the only conclusion I have come to is that buying a video card really really sucks.

Sorry Poop but I have to agree with ZZ (and I was a Nvidia fanboy before).
Not a single problem on my new system with a 9800 Pro 128 MB: no CTD, no lockups, stable fps @ 75 (LCD monitor) with a 1280x1024 resolution, texture size 512 MB, 4X FSAA and sliders set at medium.
I believe that ATI cards are better for flight sims due to the hardware FSAA.
I also do believe that the guys having problems don't deinstall their previous drivers before installing the new ones.
