Whats the picture named "Twin P51"? I can't decifer if it's 2 51's sitting next to each other or not heh.
-
I forget the designation for that.It was 2 51's spliced together. It was mostly used for hi alt recon in early korea.Never saw much usage. Think it was called an F 80 F 82.I furget.:p
-
Nice! Thats sweet, never seen such a photo. :D
-
I did a model of one of those. Was a horrid thing. There were gaps you copuld have shot through. The putty I put into that job was insane.I wrote the company to let them know I was letting the model rings know what kind of crap they sold and sent pix of the thing with the putty all over it.Looked REAL nice in person tho.

Yup Betty Joe.Thats the one I had.Nice looking ride isnt it :)
-
Yah its a very nice plane. Interesting to say the least. ;) Wonder how it manuvered. Kinda like a permanent wingman since the 2 planes are built together hehe. Just where you go your wingman goes, kinda like tug-o-war. :D
-
Cant swear by it but I think it only had one set of controls. Then again I could be wrong but think of the range on that bad boy.
-
Yah hehe was just kiddin bout the tug-o-war. But yes range is deffenetly it's strong point. Doesn't have any arnament, so it is deffenetly reconnaissance. I might be wrong tho. It really is a unique aircraft, I like it hehe.

F-82 was the twin mustang, it was a long range escort/night
fighter that in fact scored the first kills over Korea.
-
Thanks Rino.I thought it was an F-82 but I wasnt sure.
-
Also didnt know they were used in the fighter role.

Yes...Rino knows everything. It's cuz he is OLD :).

Someone is currently restoring an F-82, Twin Mustang.
Iv lost track of its location, as I believe it changed hands during the restoration.
Im always awaiting its arrival at Oshkosh each year. Maybe this year. :)

as I rember it had 8 50s in the center wing section and 3 more in each wing, with the second cockpit holding a radar and operator..... not absolutly shure about the outer wings but the joining wing was armed....

My squad, the 327th, was there, in force. I could not attend because of an accident.
On the squad site are two pages about the con:
http://www.327th.com/AWCON2K.htm
http://www.327th.com/images/awcon2k__movies.htm
And on this page is a list of 327th winnings at the AW 2K con:
