Title: Another ICON post
Post by: J_A_B on June 26, 2004, 09:41:03 PM
With the introduction of customized skins online (wonderful feature BTW) it is now entirely impossible to tell apart sub-models of things like Spits and 109's and such.

I find that rather irritating.

Here's what I propose:

Do away with excess 0's in the range counter portion of the enemy ICON, and replace it with an additional letter or two for sub-type identification.   One more digit would suffice....being able to tell a 109F from a 10G-10 would be enough of an improvement for me without necessarily needing to be able to tell apart a G2 from a G6.  Or full sub-type identification....either way works.

Just why do you think you should be able to tell an f4u1 from an f4uD or variations of th 190 or 109 without getting real close?   Its an unfortunate fact that you will eventually learn many of the color schemes and what planes they go with....but a damned nice thing tht many will be too similar to tell right away.

I find the change refreshing and exciting.  Knowing whats under the hood from 500-1000 yards out is pretty silly.

500-1000 yards = 1,500 to 3,000 feet.

Impossible to really tell what you're facing, basic plane shape could be easily distinguised.

109 variants were very subtle, usually abulge there or wing extension.

190 variants, the D or "Dora" was easily identified with a long nose (LangNase)

P51 variants: one is silver, one is dark green

Spits...well thats hard to tell sometimes
