Title: Question re convergence
Post by: Paxil on June 27, 2004, 01:36:06 PM
Actually, not convergence really... but bullet drop.

If I set my convergence to 400, if I am flying exactly level, can I expect the bullets to hit at exactly the height they were when they left the gun? Or because of bullet drop would they hit a bit below where I was aiming? I'm asking because it seems like there should be an up and down adjustment for guns along with convergence. Or does setting the convergence also slightly adjust the barrels up the further out you set it?

With an M16, I'd zero for what... 200 or 250 meters. Shooting at anything before that and I'd aim slightly lower than where I'd want to hit, anything farther than that, I'd aim above.

On a staffing pass recently (not pulling any G's) it seem to me the rounds where hitting below where I expected them to, even at fairly close range.

At one time there was terrain with a bit flat wall with a target on it... is that still around somewhere?

The game models up and down as well as horizontal convergence.....ie... if you were to set distance at 300 then move out to 600 your gun package would increase slightly pointing up to allow for bullet drop effect.

This is the case in all planes regardless of wing mounted or nose mounted guns....

It has been tested and proven............

Yes, it pitches the barrels up or down depending on the convergence you set.  And the target is not a terrain.  Its a command in which you input the command: ".target xxx" - let X be numbers ranging from 0 to 9

Christ, sounds like a math problem I had last year LOL

Didn't realise it adjusted the up and down also. So I guess some of the actual sights on the planes are in slightly incorrect postions?
Asking because I had a Nik at d0 according the range finder, opened up with bead right on him, everything went below him.

Kev , they are all in the correct position. But think about how far your head is from the guns. The bullets will only cross the center of the gun sight at 1 distance, and only when the plane is at a 1 speed and altitude. If you are exteamly close to a plane your bullets will shoot under the plane because they are in an upward trajectory to cross the gun sight at your convergance setting.
