Title: How about that new ack?
Post by: AKDejaVu on January 01, 2001, 09:55:00 AM
The stuff sure is lethal.  No more flying slow circles through an enemy field knowing that the ack will miss.  I like it.

the 40mm is to accurate.

hits every time at high deflection and long range.

Don't know about every time... I've gotten close a few times and made it out allive.

I just can't flight thru it anymore.

I also like that the friendly ack can hit you.  Makes diving into that cv group with an enemy on your 6 a little more risky.

I'm quite happy with it. At the end of 1.04 I could sometimes take out a VH with a heavy F4U and then remove every single ack from a large field without taking damage - bit crazy.

I hate that the fleets have auto gunners at all and you cant turn them off!
First off the fleet has MANNABLE gunns of every kind so the player can defend his ships.
Second it the fleet has its historical amount of firepower that was needed to deal with waves of bombers and fighters and now all it has to fight with is maby 2 or 3 planes at a time.  I wish there was a way to completly turn off the AI guns on the ships, its YOUR fleet it has guns for YOU to shoot  YOU take care of it!

Wobble, at times some countries don't have enough people to man even one of the two fleets, and that's without any planes in the air at all.

Like the new 88s.  Seems like they rarely touch a fighter cruising at high alt but still gotta look out for them at low alt.

The rest of'em suck big time.  Too much dispersion or something.  Ack diving is alot more dangerous that it previously was IMO.  I've had alot more 'golden BBs' that stopped a good field deacking in 1.05 than I did in 1.04 or earlier versions.

Conversely I drove an M3 onto a base as 2 or 3 guns came up.  In about 5 minutes I got 2 kills and only got pinged 3 times, none fatal.  No pings as I drove to the map room and let my troops out.  The ack got lucky and took out 1 troop before he went into the map room (watched 9 explode).  My M3 dinnae die til almost all the field guns were back up.

what are you talking about ?

Ack is a Joke now ! (talking Fields and Strats, not CBG ack.) Blitz (and I with less proficiency)regularly take the ack out alone at a small or medium field, takes two of us to get it done on a Big field. Just make sure you get those 88's first...

hmm
to me, 105 acks are lot easyer - it's not necessary to break hard when you see that they opened fire.
Now i can strafe most airfield acks alone.

Umm...I think you are mistaken. The ships in the AH fleets have no where near the amount of AA guns that their real life counterparts had.

Gie,

I could routinely shoot down all ack in 1.04
with almost any plane {just by flying vertical loops over the field.]

However, in 1.05 it appears they have decreased the reaction time of the guns -- they react much faster now. While it is true the 1.05 ack is less focused, you cannot fly a loop over the field.

I know how to shoot down 1.05 ack now, but I sure don't fly loops! I would be interested to know exactly what you are talking about.

I was jaboing a ammo factory and refinery few times today and it was easy to take out acks and continue with buildings.
IMHO it was easier than 1.04 ?

Even in an full H2H game there are enough people (4) to both carry out missions and have one person babysit the carrier guns, however with the AI you can take all 8 players against a group with torps bombs or whaterver and theya re likely to sink 1 ship and it is likeley noone will survive, I dont know about anyone else but there have been VERY few times i have been able to launch a successful torpedo attack or divebomb and come close to survive it.  The way it is now any attack against a fleet is a suicide mission with like a 1% chance of survival. however 1 person on the 5" guns can hold of as many tbm's or fighters just fine without the stupid AI crap, in other words it is twice as easy to get a kill on a fighter and twice as hard to live through an attack on a fleet.
Also I noticed that there is no way to turn down the damage of the fleet ack, no matter what you adjust it is just as powerful.

"Umm...I think you are mistaken. The ships in the AH fleets have no where near the amount of AA guns that their real life counterparts had. "

well smut im also noticing that insted of being attacked by the typical hundred plus aircraft they get attacked by 2 to 5, so I dont really care how much firepower they really had its a gameplay issue (as HTC just loves to say) not a realism issue. you cant expect to put ships with that much fire power especally if you dont even have to frinnin gun them and expect to have a snowballs chance in hell of living through attackin one.  Yes you may sink the ship you are after but 99% of the time the only reason you know it is because you see it in the message bar cause yer dead.

That's defending against 4 people Wobble, it's not defending a two front war in the main arena.  I don't want to have to spend my flight sim time sitting in some desolate turret, and I imagine most others here don't either.

PS - Approach higher, divebombs are very livable (as are torpedo approaches) but you'll be dropping without being within definate hit range.  On the TBM drop from the edge of the ack umbrella, the torp will still make it if aimed right.

My impresssion is that field ack is LESS deadly in 1.05 than 1.04. In fact I commented on that to my squad prior to reading this thread.

TBM torpedoing doesnt require that you fly into the acks. The torpedos travel i would guess about 3-5ooo yards.Drop when acks starts up hard turn 180 degrees and lead your shots.
Its suicide to run straight at the acks as it should be.
The only time i find the ack a real problem is dive bombing a fleet but as i refine my dives i drop from higher and higher as im sure the divebombers had to in the war.
Watch those old films of kamakazi's and you'll see the place looks like a mass of tracer.
I like the levels of ack.It means using your skill to avoid them.As for base ack i just think its different and slightly less predictable. In 1.04 you could take out all the acks if you kept speed up and jinked, now you have to take your time and works your way through each ack instead of taking 4 -5 in 1 pass.
just adapt your tactics.

notice i said SUCCESSFUL ATTACK, sure you cand drop you bombs from 10k over fleet and drop torps form 3k out but yer not gonna hit a damn thing most of the time. and in the MA yes there are more planes attacking it but guess what there are more people on it too! how about that.  everything is in praportion ACCEPT the acks id there are 15 planes attacking them or 2 they are just  as dense, so thats why i want to turn them off.  I know this is only h2h and HTC doesent get paid for h2h so they could care less and all but it sure would be nice..nice what a concept.

I like the new AAA, it's nice to see that the cround gunners now have to deal with both gravity and dispersion now. I'm not finding it majorly more difficult to take out the AAA.

However because of the AAA being less accurate it's actually harder to dodge, let me try and explain...

Previsously because the AAA was always aiming at where you would be all you had to do was make sure you're more than a plane's width from where the AAA thought you were, so gentle evasives worked fine. Now however the AAA is sparying /around/ where they think you will be you have to avoid that whole area to avoid being hit so you actually have to jinmk more.

Well, that's what I find anyway =)

Acks are less lethal now.  Easier to take them out.

Field acks are manned by a bunch of hung-over two year olds.

I took out six acks at a medium field and never got one ping from any ack.  It was an osti that brought me down.  It seems the ack rate of fire is less, and it is certainly less accurate.
