Title: reinstalling drivers
Post by: Flyboy on June 28, 2004, 01:12:10 PM: yesterday i updated my sound drivers and since then when im going online, everytime i am shooting my guns i get a "microfreeze" the longest are about half a second but usually shorter.

the only thing i changed was the sound card drivers. so i want to get the old ones back, any idea how do i do it?

i have no idea what drivers i originaly had and i do not have the CD with the drivers

Post by: zmeg on June 28, 2004, 01:24:50 PM: Right click on 'my computer', click properties, click hardware then device manager. Click on the + by sounds...ect locate your sound card in the list then double click on it. next click the drivers tab then click roll back drivers. you may need to reboot afterwards. I know it sounds complicated but you'll find it's really quick & easy.

thanks for the quick reply, but i am running windows 98 so i dont have this option.

any other ideas?

Post by: nopoop on June 29, 2004, 09:49:11 AM: It's been awhile but you SHOULD have the option in 98 in the device manager. Click on your soundcard/properties etc.

But it's been awhile.

Post by: Seeker on June 29, 2004, 05:38:17 PM: If all else fails; and having run dxdiag and running through all the sound card tests:

Uninstall any thing sound card related from add/remove programs

Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 under boot.

Delete the sound card from device manager

When the machine reboots; it'll find the card as new and ask for a driver.

Have one handy.

Reinstall any sound card related programs.

Reinstall DirectX

Post by: spiffykraits on June 30, 2004, 04:25:36 PM: If you changed or updated the sound drivers and they were the correct ones for your card, re-install Direct-X, when changing any vid or sound drivers especially always make sure you rerun DirectX to update it with your current set.

Tip- run directX diagnostics (type dxdiag in the run command box) and test vid and sound. On the sound tab it's a good idea to reduce hardware acceleration for the sound only by one notch (you will see it in the sound tab section)
