Title: Proximity kills
Post by: Sled on June 28, 2004, 09:37:20 PM
Why do we have Proximity kills? The only reason I can think of is to give a little encouragement to the "New Guys". Beyond that I see no useful purpose.  If you shoot at a guy and HIT him, and then he goes down, fine, I can see that. But just because a "new guy" augers next to my C-47? do I really deserve a "Kill"?

The idea of Proximity kills seems to contrast the spirit of this game.

Pimpjoe explained it best.

Actually its a manuver kill. well its supposed to be. like when your chasing somebody and they're so inclined to watch you that they crash. or when you have somebody on your 6 and do manuvers that they can't stay with you through and they crash.

Dog out....

There is also the issue of augering to deny your opponent the credit. Like, seeing someone high on E when you are low and slow, if there were no proximity kills then some people would just splash before the other guy could even get into firing range.

Its because there is nothing quite as satisfying as watching an La-7 auger in when you put a few rounds over his right wing...and oopsie...he didnt see that hill to the left :D

Wardog: good point, but it seems to me that the kill usally goes to the wrong guy anyway.

Kerago: you also make a good point, but it seems that is a small percentage of the players in the game.

I'm not much of a score guy, so maybe this is why I feel this way.

just my thoughts.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't think you got points for Proxi kills.

no points.  but they do factor into the ratios, hence to affect your ranking to a degree.

Most kills in one mission in Ah2 - 1 actual bullet kill, 4 proxies :)
Nothing like racking up 4 kills bingo ammo.

Didn't get to land it though - I got proxi killled :D
