Ok....
If you had to choose between the following, which would it be? And please keep it simple and choose between only these two choices (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
1. I fly for fun and my score is not important.
2. I fly for fun and my score is important.
Just curious as to how the community is split on this issue.
Thanks

3)I fly for fun and my score is impotent
thats my choice (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Score creates more trouble than it is worth, IMHO.
-
What's this score thing you guys are talking about?
Seriously, the stats are broken right now. K/D is calculated wrong, gunnery percentage penalizes strafing, fighter bomber stats are mixed with fighter stats, tank stats are mixed with bomber stats, and a few other glaring problems. So I don't pay much attention to them.
-
I fly to pad other people's scores!
In other words I fly for the fun.
The only thing I look for on my score is my gunnery % to see if I am getting any better.
But now I fly so much JABO it is pretty bad.

I'm a number one type, but I do not begrudge the number two kind for thier way.

I fly for fun... Probably the reason i dont have anything to whine about.
How many of you would take a Typhoon and T&B with a Zeke under 5k knowing the outcome before you start? I will and have and will contine to do so..
Very little gets under my skin, cept for the consistant whiners.
Dog out...

I would. But currently I'm enjoying doing just that in my P-47 too much to try the Tiffie. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Well score is important to me .. wel not score but NOT dieing .. So i measure my success with my K/D .. if i get below 3 i'm getting itchy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I fly for fun, but also to stay alive. I feel that landing safely with 3-4 kills is better than being shotdown and starting over.
If you want to talk about reality issues, the first thing you should do is talk about flying to live instead of all of the super suicide moves that are performed daily.

Ice,
If I was interested in score I would be dweeb whoring every poor SOB in my Chog and flying goons to field captures everywhere.
Since I am interested in statistics, I grab graceful, sleek fast planes where ride men of skill and honor!
Its in the Statistics man!
Thats where its at!

LoL Wardog, I've done that too! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Have to say it was a blast! Best 1v1 dogfight I have ever been in. Don't know about all this Hog and George talk. The Typhoon is scary!
Oops, sorry Ice. #1. For evidence, look at my score, hehe

I pay attention to my score... it's just a phase... but since I learned that your score will zoom upwards disportionately if you do a little bombing and field capturing with your fighter sorties, it isn't all that big a deal. There are some real lethal experten flying around here that you don't see on the top ten list.

2. I fly for fun and my score is important
Score can be fun IMO - been flying for that for ages now.And it can be done in a G6 as well as a Hog.
*Really* looking forward to the new score handling. If its good it will be a revelation - at least for me.

#1 but i keep an eye on my K/D. I use that to see how well I'm learning to avoid people better than me (ie everyone).
-
Serious thought hs brought me to the real reason I play.
To fly with a great group of guys, hopefully on meaningful missions that will promote the "Positive Presence" of my group/squad, as well as my own. I fly to escort bombers to target, fly the wing of another pilot and be an assest to my country's interests.
Yes, that is why I fly (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I remember in DOA a squadie saying congrats to me. I asked him "for what??" He replyed for being ranked #3. I didnt believe him as I could name at least 5 people off the top of my head that regularly waxed my butt. That just reinforced my belief that score means absoultly nothing. We all know who the toejam us without a score sheet to tell us.

I fly k/d.
I dont worry about others score.
Its a game i play with myself.
Its not for everyone.
The scoreing system imo is not fair.
There is no way to tell if some one is cheating with 2 accounts. Even killing them.
So i do my own thing.

If you say "I fly for fun" that's valid. If you say "I fly for score" that's also valid.
Unfortunatly if you try to tell us you fly for "score AND fun" in the MA then, IMHO; yer fulla crap. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) (<< note smiley) I see guys workin up a kill streak; guys in this thread no less... that rant and rave when they get killed. Yet here they say "I fly fer fun.. not scores."
I submit that flying for 'scores', and flying for 'fun' are mutually exclusive.
How can you help a bud; brave that ostie fire; back up yer wingies and capture that field; dying three times in the process (which is what I consider 'fun') without gettin pissed off at yer team's raw unadulterated dweebery that hampers your score and ENJOY the experience at the same time if you fly for score? The text buffer belies that "I fly for fun AND score" premise.... unless these score guys enjoy ranting and raving more than score dweebery and furball dweebery combined. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
In any case; IMHO 'scores' are crutches for the timid... and timid MA pilots are of no use to any team concept that will 'win territory, dominate the enemy's airspace, & ravish their sheep'.... at least in in a AH main arena venue.
IMHO; the only possible use for score is to determine via relative CHANGES and thereby reveal by that change what works; and what don't in attack style and objective success.. It's possible to use 'scores' as a yardstick for effectiveness of gameplay style, that I'll buy. But scores alone don't tell yah the whole story.. they don't reveal who the really dangerous guys are.. only who the timid guys are.
To win an objective, yah HAVE to fight.. like lotto; yah gotta get in it; to win it. That's risky as hell... and counter-productive to a 'good score'. I can and often do damage my score by simply sticking it out in poor odds to achieve an objective... and those objectives are not on the scoresheet... anywhere.
<flame off>
In short; 'scores' are not the measure of an MA pilots effectiveness. Give us a HA and that will no longer be true. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

THERE'S A SCORING SYSTEM???!!!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
Hangtime:
overall, I agree with you. When I am carefully lonewolfing, my K/D can go up to 8.0. But it's tedious.
When flying with my squad mates, the situation has a tendency to get hairy; you need to be cleared, then wingie needs to be cleared. Then yer jumped by high alt inbound enemies.
That being said, for me for something to be fun, there hsas to be a challenge to it. Part of it is the dogfight itself - the biggest part. But, I also need to see how I'm doing. Am I getting worse/better? Am I killing more than I die?
So, I fly for fun, but keep an eye on K/D ratio - anything below 3 and I get a wee bit worried.
This doesn't mean I fly cautiously - most of you guys have caught me with my pants down down low in the weeds. I means I don't go into a fight knowing I am going to die. I need a *possible* escape, be it outscissoring two or three guys and then extending to friendlies, or killing off two bandits quickly to get a 1v1 with the last one (yeah, like that ever happens (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)).
Points I don't care about. hit percentage I don't either, since JABOing screws up things. I will (unlike most it seems) happilly accept the role as an ack strafer when others are vulching. In fact, my job in 9./JG 54 is to strafe acks while the others go for hangars.
But K/D still is a good indicator, so I keep an eye on it.
The rest; can't use it for anything. Either we capture the field or we don't. We get out alive or we don't. Points don't really indicate either (unless yer the goon driver (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)).
Uhm, that's it.

OK...I gave my off the cuff remark...now.
In events, I fly like my life depends on it.
In the other sims, (WB's for one) I would fly the HA like my life depended on my skills.
Now, When it comes to a MA, what's the big deal about score?
Please...pretty please...HA! err..after 1.05. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
Fun, no score.
-
People call me a score potato and it hurts, I'm a lady!!!!!!
-
Santa..
Yup. I hear yah; and what yah say is gospel, as far as it goes... MA tends to kinda crimp yer K/D if you work with yer buds in a target-rich hostile enviornment with an eye towards obtaining an objective on the map instead of on the score page.
I guess like most of us that have been here awile the MA scenery and dweebery is gettin stale for you as well as me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Sure wish we had a HA... (hang laments) ...or v1.05 AND a HA.
Then we could log on, hop into the HA and squint at each other over our respective gunsights with a different mindset.. and do something besides quakebirds EVERY night.

I fly for truth, justice, and the american way.....wait a minute that was someone else. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I just love to fly, 'specially when I get to shoot at someone.

Meine schwester hat keine kartoffel salat? Du bist eine lustige bube!!!

OK....here goes.
For me it's simple...my only goal is to kill the enemy and land those kills...does that make me too careful? Well, that depends on the situation...1v1 I'll spend my E quickly to force the bandit to commit to a manuever...if he makes a mistake, I've got him, if not, then I extend and take another shot at it, on MY terms not his.
When flying with my sqd mates, a more agressive approach is needed in 2v2 or 3v3 engagements....I tend to not get in a hurry in these situations, which can sometimes cause problems for my sqdmates. Hang and I have very different mindsets regarding this type of fight, but we are squadmates and will only get better the more we fight together (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Being a member of the 13th TAS, an all Pony squadron, lends itself to a different mindset. I believe the 51 is a superior fighter when flown correctly, using it's strengths wisely. However, slow this bird down for an extended time, especially low alt, and your asking to die.
As a squad, we benchmark our performance by K/D and K/S. Our goal as a squad, is to keep our k/d above 4.0 and our k/s above 2.0...we may not achieve this, but it's fun to try (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Until HTC changes the scoring system, this will have to suffice.
I personally care about killing and landing my kills....to fly a sortie, kill 4 or 5 bandits, just to get shot down myself, is a total waste of time. The challenge is to kill 4 or 5 and successfully land those kills. Now to accomplish that is fun for me...for someone else to dictate to me what is fun and what is not, well, that's silly.
How others in this community have fun is none of my business. I may not understand their reasoning, but I have no right to criticize how they fly this sim (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I am selfish in that I fly for MY personal enjoyment, not to please others.
For the ten years I've been doing this, I have always admired the pilots who killed with impunity...they were kinda untouchable.
I know that when I'm runnin away from some of you, it doesn't make you happy...however, when I come bak after you've forgotten all about me and I kill you, it makes me very happy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Different strokes I guess...would kinda be a boring place if we were all of the same mold.
<S> to all of you!

I don't give a damn about score. I only could streak, and perhaps K/D ratio, but I keep track of all my kills on paper and figure those out myself.

1. I fly for $29.95.... so far (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
2. Never cared about score, streak or K/D
3. Won't care about perks either, cuz won't get one. Score will be critical to the perk system and flying some super dooper plane for one sortie only to be shot down in it isn't worth the time to think about it.

Another mis-informed individual.
You will get perk points whether you like it or use them, or not. It accumulates from tour to tour...so you're gonna get them. I'll ask if HT can transfer Perk Points from one player to another, then you can give your to me if you're gonna feel guilty about having them... i fly for 2 things
1: to kill
2: to live
personally I cant see how anyone can run up 9/1 k/d ratios and have 300+kills with no deaths. I try to live every time i leave the ground and i've never had better than 2/1 k/d ratio.

#1 now. Although i used to be a #2 (but only as a guide for relative improvement between tours)
Having said im a #1 i still wont do really dumb things (most of the time) and will always try to rtb. I hate giving people kills more than loosing a 'life'.
