Annan looms of punishment measures against Sudan (http://www.arabicnews.com/ansub/Daily/Day/040630/2004063007.html)
The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan remarked on the possibility that the UN Security Council will take punishment measures against Sudan unless Khartoum moves to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Darfour area.
Well? What should the UN SC do?
Sanctions? Let it be?
-
Kofi Annan, LOL...what a chimp. When will that guy's term ever end? He is a piss-ant who thinks he's knows what is best for the world, yet can't even run the bozo squad at the UN.
-
If Sudan doesn't shape up, they'll pass a resolution.

UN? Nice typo, you meant the US right?

Why no, I certainly mean the UN.
Many of our brothers here on the BBS continually point out that there are "bad things" going on in a lot of places.
Well, here's one. Clearly the UN has noticed.
Shouldn't the UN SC be moving on this one? England, France and Germany are sort of busy with Iran's nuke program right now. (I'm sure they'll have that all sorted out in a short time without any hard feelings on either side.) Perhaps some of the other UN nations that are eager advisors on policy could pick up this ball and run with it?
-
Doesnt Syria run the UN human rights commision? Lets see how Damascus handles this delicate situation....
-
the US is the UN, whoops, I mean China really cares about this.
Come awn, "10th mountain, come on over"

I'll fill in till they get here:
The violence in Sudan is caused by peace-loving Muslims being driven to rage by America's support for Israel, and the Bush-Haliburton-CIA exploitation of Muslim oil wealth. The dead in Sudan are more blood on America's hands. Annan is powerless to do anything because the US won't pay it's UN dues. This entire mess was engineered by Bosh and his Skull and Crossbones cronies. The whole world suffers for America's imperialist arrogance.
-
But Ra-International, what shall the other UN countries do? Can they not step forward and resolve this problem on their own initiative?

Unlike Bosh's imperialist Amerika, other UN countries do not act unilaterally, but through democratic agreement.
A conference of UN ambassadors will convene in the French Riviera next week to discuss the matter. A preliminary resolution will be issued in September, then the conference will re-convene in the Italian Alps for the remainder of the year. Expect decisive proclamations early next Spring, if Bosh hasn't destroyed the world by then.

maybe moore could make a "documentary" and fix the problem.

Nah.....if the Sudan goes to hell in a handbasket, it wont affect the US (not much oil, no international flashpoint), so the corporations that rule our countries will probably stay out of this one.
But, hey! Talisman Energy is doing it's bit for its shareholders....you ought to be proud, ra! Another one for the cause!

Well, to be fair, Talisman, a CANADIAN oil company btw, did sell their interests in Sudan to be rid of the scandal.

Ok, just wanted to be sure as so many seem to generalize and blame the US for all the West's misdeeds.

Yep. "world's worst humanitarian crisis"; this calls for the Scandies.
Darfur villagers tell of war's horrors (http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/africa/07/01/sudan.darfur.ap/index.html)
U.N. officials call the situation in Darfur the , and in a meeting with Sudanese Cabinet ministers Wednesday, Annan said he wanted to see progress in the next 24-48 hours in resolving the conflict, which has killed up to 30,000 people and left some 2 million in desperate need of aid.
