I love a good fight. It's hard for me to put it into words. It's like dancing with planes. It's like a good game of chess. It looks to the casual viewer to be a relatively simple thing but it is infinitely more complicated. The heart pounding the sweaty palms. But sometimes I force myself to relax and take a more calculated approach. I don't really have the vocabulary to effectively get my thoughts into words. There is nothing like it in the world. Knowing that the other guy is trying his best to shoot you down and you win. Knowing it frustrates him as much as it frustrates you when you get shot down. There are so many reasons I could go on for pages and still not be done. So I will end this post now.
But tell me if anyone knows where I am coming from. It's like an art and science all togather. There are so many ways you can approach it and there is NO one right answer. It is just something that I look forward to each and every day and it never gets old to me.

good fights almost allways only happen when the 2 planes are well matched

Dogfights rule because they are a competive match between real people. In other words, fuel tanks and barracks don't fight back.

if you believe in reincarnation, then maybe some of us were combat pilots in a previous life?

Not always true sir. I had been playing this game maybe 4 months when a stumbled upon a Spit9 OTD. We were more or less co-alt, I engage and a 10 minute dogfight ensues, misc alt adv's, etc. Finally, I took a gamble and lost (eventually). I just dropped flaps, toggled landing gear, the Spit almost stalled a few times trying to make all of the WIDE "Split-s" turns. I had the G-6 down to just under 100 on the Airspeed ind. (almost stalling as well).
<> Sads, that's still the best damn dogfight I've ever been in.

Agreed - I think that most of us fly AH for the dogfights. Lately I've had some absolute dandies in the CT versus such tough opponents as 'Storch' and 'Crumpp', etc. Real game fighters, those LW lads. I also had a marvelous fight against 'Noboru' a few weeks back where he showed me how to fly a 190A8 versus my p15d. That one ended in a draw after one of us was damaged. I find that I can develop a great feeling of respect for a good tough opponent after an intense dog fight, no matter who wins/loses.
