Is this kind of like panzer general II? I really liked that.(still do)
-
Looks interesting.
Is this a sequel?
Anyone play it yet?
-
Pretty sure it is an upgrade from Uncommon Valour (Valor if you are an American ;) )
-
Thanks Brady, been waiting for this one.
-
Oh no, there goes my summer! :)
This game will be for anyone who like warfare on a grand strategic and tactical scale.
It's the sequel to Uncommon Valor:Campaign for the South Pacific
And I'm sure it will be as addicting as hell.
Curval, you going to pick up a copy?
I'll probably have to wait for a couple of weeks to get mine.
LOL, this is cool, watching all the UV players pop into here. We should really get a O'Club ladder game of UV or WitP going, eh guys? :)
-
Not sure yet banana. I plan to actually get some UV in this weekend. If the joy returns I will get this one. We'll see.
-
$69.99 ?!?!?!?

banana, plan on this game taking up several summers.
If you think UV was complicated, WitP will blow your mind.
Picked it up yesterday, played it until 3am.
It will literally take me two years to finish the grand campaign at the rate I am going.

Worth every penny, Mickey. That is, if it's anywhere near as good as UV was.

Where did you get it? In a store?

Yes, 70 bucks.
You know, everything has gone up in price over the last 10 years except the price of video games (or so it seems). In 1994 I paid 55 dollars for Pacific Air War Gold. These days we snivel if a game cost over 40 bucks.
I am sure many of you remember paying 2 dollars an hour to play Warbirds. I will be willing to bet that some of you blew more than 70 bucks in one month (I know I did) on a regular basis.
This game is so in depth that I doubt anyone will finish it in 6 months, much less a year. Since people are paying 45 bucks for the next stupid Unreal clone I personally think 70 dollars is cheap.

Downloaded it from matrix game's site. Took me all of 15 minutes with my cable connect. I burned a copy onto a disk for backup and away I went.
Trust me, imagine UV on steroids. That is this game. Grisby outdid himself with this. It's like his older games, Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich-one small version turned into a massive game.
-
So it's worth the 70 bucks?
Are there cool animations or is it pure strat with no eye-candy?
I like turn based WWII strat with some eye candy.
(Think Civ 3).
Similar interface/Graphics/Sound

I can't say 100 percent that it is worth the money based on one night of playing. If the next few days are like last night, when I finally dragged myself to bed after my wife yelled at me for the fourth time, then yes, it is worth 70 bucks.
If you are looking for eye candy you probably shouldn't look at this game. It looks good but it feels like an old board game.
So far the game is exceptionally complicated. If you thought Uncommon Valor was complicated then you haven't seen anything yet. I'm hitting the printer at work (don't tell the Army I am stealing toner-Waste Fraud Abuse:D ) so I can re-read the manual.
I personally don't care quite so much for graphics if the game draws me in and holds me. Wargames in particular do this for me.
-
I dont really care for graphics as much as gameplay, but I like animations.
For example...CIV 3, or A Bridge too Far...things like that.
Not graphics intensive at all but you dont need to read text to know who won the battle, you know.
Is there a demo anywhere?
-
Muck, I don't think you'd like WitP. It requires studying the manual, or at least reading through it once, and that is a daunting task. It's not a game for the casual strategy gamer. This is hard-core grognard territory.
While it does have little graphical battles, they are modest, and most useful info on the results of a battle are indeed text-based.
-
Got it...amazing, an upgraded Pacwar from Grigsby, def worth getting...
-
Uncommon valour went straight over my head. No matter how hard i tried i spent most of my time staring at the screen scratching my head, thinking "what on earth is happening here?".
I think i'll wait for Hearts of Iron II.
-
$69.99 !! my gosh. Not even the Mighthy DOOM3 or HL2 are going for that much.
-
Played for 6 hours and I'm on Dec the 12th!!!!...er 1941.....at this rate should finish sometime in 2007
-
Cripes a few years worth of gameplay for 70$ is a steal.
