Reminds me of the story my Mother in law tells about her brothers.  Seems they had an excellent duck-dog, a big old lab.  They went hunting early one morning but the pond was frozen over, so they threw a stick of dynamite out to break the ice up and encourage the ducks to come in.  The dog, being a dog, ran out and got the stick and headed back towards them.  Damn shame to have to shoot your own dog that you love.....
