Title: Tour de France
Post by: Duedel on July 03, 2004, 08:21:38 PM
OK here we go again ... the next 3 weeks will be very exciting, so the first leg was the Prolog and Lance did a really good job. I'm pretty sure he has the ability to win for the unbelievable 6th time. Jan is good (very good indeed) but he wont be able to beat the master.

Drug induced men riding bycicles & wearing tight pants can only be "exciting" if you are weird, or...

I really hope Jan Ulrich make it this year. 5 time winning the Tour
is more then enough for Lance! ;)
I expect to see a fantastic battle the next weeks.

You believe that about Lance, Saw?  I don't following "bike racing," so I'm clueless.  It appears some of the British & French press are out for his blood.  What ya think?

Turns on Kraftwerk's Tour de France :)

I haven't really watched the Tour de France much lately.  I used to follow it big time in the late 80s and early 90s with Roche, Delgardo, Lemond etc.

Professional cyclism is rotten.
This coming from a cycle nut.

My brother stopped racing a few years ago, just one season short of becoming a pro, because of the drug thing.

His personal trainer was one of the clean guys, but team trainers and doctors just poured chemicals down the throats of those kids.
He was the strongest guy in his team, but after three or four incidents because his refusal to ingest unnamed pills or have the contents of unlabelled vials injected, they made clear that he had no future in the sport, he was a "rebel" and "non-competitive".

He was fortunate, he was doing ok with his University studies, some other kids leave everything for the sport and are desperate.

There are clean people in the sport, but they are very few and powerless, therefore hopeless.

Giro,Tour and Spanish Vuelta TV transmisions where religious-like events at home. Now we just flip the channel.

I've just found this to be the most boring sport to watch... also most, if not all of these lads are on EPO. And yes...I do find they look silly in their tight pants :)

I dunno, I enjoy watching the highlights when one of them gets bumped in the mountains and goes smoking off the side of the cliff.

You just have that attitude because no Frenchie has won since Hinault '85, and LeMond should have won that one.

I don't think so Holden, maybe we have more (I'd use th word "incessant(sp?)") coverage of biking here... on some channels it feels like it 12h/day. And there are LOTS of EPO use reported, every year there's at least a full team that is disbanded/disqualified because of this.

And I'm not jealous, we had the best biker of all times: Eddie Mercks(sp?)!!!

no , it ain't new ... dope as always been present in cyclism...

I can't believe a properly trained sportsman can die in  his 20's just naturaly ...

PS : Saw I think it's "Merckx" (je suis pas sur sur ...)
et pouf au lit ;)

A Belgian who can't spell Eddy Merckx' name?
I knew Saw was a closet frog, now it's confirmed.

You probably do.  We have Scott Peterson, Micheal Jackson, and the Bush/Kerry fight to fill the airwaves.

Outdoor Life cable network is the only TDF news.

As I mentioned previously... I grew up in Asia, and I couldn't care less about men riding bicycles in tight pants! The sports I grew up with were cricket, then base-U-ball ;)

Funked, go wash your mouth with soap now!

We stayed at our summer house, and we only have a small boat there for fishing and watersports :)

Not very lucky with the weather this week either but it could have been worse.

I've been watching some of the tour.

Lance is an incredible athlete, no question... but he wouldn't be where he is without his team.

That said... his girlfriend is kinda hot. ;)

No Tour de Fance winner has ever won it riding lone-wolf. You can't do it without a team.
